- Background
- Born and raised in GA, I have had a fishing rod in hand since I was around 3 years old. I spent most of my time through highschool and college fishing lakes and rivers in Georgia and nearby states but I would always make at least one trip a year down to the salt waters of Florida. After college I went out west and bounced around to different jobs and states until I decided that I wanted to give guiding a shot. I headed up to Alaska and cut my teeth guiding from drift boats on the Kenai river. Between season I came down to the Florida Keys (to thaw out) and fell in love with the place and the complex puzzle that this fishery presents. After working at a local tackle shop and doing a little deck handing on the side, I got my captains license and started Held Fast Charters. I am truly blessed and living my dream!
- Techniques
- I want you to have an enjoyable and memorable trip, so I like to cater my methods to the angler, as well as the species available to target. When I am fishing for pleasure, I prefer to fly fish or use med/light spin tackle and artificials. I enjoy the challenge of taking something artificial and lifeless, and using it to fool a fish into thinking it is food. I understand that this level of challenge is not for everyone though, so I am always happy to use live and dead baits to up the odds of getting a memorable catch. Don't worry if you are inexperienced, one of my favorite aspects of guiding is getting to teach and coach new anglers on proper techniques and methods, to help them catch fish. If you show up with a good attitude and are willing to listen, we will make your trip a memorable one. Give me a shout and let's get out on the water together!
