- Background
- As a kid, Captain Benny loved to peddle his bike to a nearby park with his fishing pole and a bunch of worms. He would spend the entire day there practicing casting and trying new techniques. It became a passion for him. The captain bought his first boat when he was 15 (thanks to his uncle for lending him the money – which he repaid as soon as he could). As he got older, the boats got bigger, the equipment got better, and fishing turned into a science. Captain Benny's love for the sport turned into a business in 1988 and he landed in Fairport Harbor. It continues to allow him the privilege of sharing his skills and knowledge. He loves fishing the Central Basin and hopes to promote the sport and love of the outdoors. There's nothing like spending the day on Lake Erie – The Walleye Capital of the World!
- Techniques
- Captain Ben runs a trolling charter equipped with downriggers, planer boards, dipsie divers, jets, nightcrawlers, and wire lines. His first mate, Tom, will assist you with every catch. He'll net the fish, take the hook out, and stow it in the cooler for you. It can be a hands-on fishing experience aboard the 'DownTime', so be ready to reel! Once you get back to shore, Tom and Captain Ben will clean, fillet, and bag the fish for you for a minimal charge. Don't forget to bring a cooler full of ice to take your fish home in.
