6 Hour Trip – Inshore / FlatsCaptain Hunter Bach was a true professional. He taught us so much about fishing in our short time together. He knows the fish, where they are and what they like to eat. We truly enjoyed our fishing trip and caught several large fish including a 40-50 pound Tarpon, Flounder, Amberjack and more. He was so patient and helpful in baiting and releasing our catches. I would recommend Captain Bach to anyone whether just learning to fish all the way up to the pros! He is highly skilled at fresh water as well as soft water charters. Choose him...you will not regret it!!

The tarpon are showing up, the snook have been firing off, and the redfish are a year round target here in mosquito lagoon. We are still catch seat trout, including some over 25”, so its a great time of year to catch a backcountry slam (redfish, snook, and tarpon) or a super slam (4 or more gamefish), whether youre fly fishing or spin fishing!

Redfish season is here!!

With the cooling temperatures the redfish are schooling up and all day sightfishing is back! The redfish fishing can often be best in the fall as the redfish begin to group up into schools, that they stay in most of the winter, but have not yet been preassured. Just yesterday we landed double digits of reds in a half day trip on fly.
In addition to the best time of year for redfish it can also be excellent for trout fishing. Whether throwing top waters in the morning or fishing to grouped up trout in sand holes it can be a great time of year for trout and the lagoons population has been growing in number and size.
Fall is also a great time of year for snook fishing as the cooler tempts bring them out from the tree line to warm up where they can be sightfished. The cooler water and abundance of mullet has them feeding aggressivley before the coming winter. Now is agreat time to book a trip!!

Big trout and sight fishing reds

March is typically the best month of the year for “gator” trout, or trout being over 24”. We are already cracking a few big, toothy, yellow mouthed, trout and are seeing even more as they can be one of the more challanging sightfishibg targets. A rewarding challange, as when everything goes right, they feed with a determined aggression.
As for the Mosquito Lagoon’s famous redfishing, we continue to visit schools of up to a 100 fish, not the easiest to catch but a Nat Geo type of spectacle. Other flats are offereing spread out fish for all day entertainment. Wether you want to fly fish, sight fish with artificials, throw too waters in the morning, or soak bait, spring is one if the best times of the year for all day flats fishing.

Massive Black Drum

February is the time of year for chasing behemoth black drum. Seasonally hundreds of black drum gather in their spawning aggregations on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River. we target them with 10 wt. Fly rods or spinning rods loaded with 20lb. test braid. We catch them on flies, artificial, and live bait so it is truly dealer's choice! Book now as the window for targeting them is brief and availability will go fast!

Schooling/Tailing Redfish and Big Laid-U

The bite has been hot in Mosquito Lagoon! The cold water has the redfish and medium-sized black drum schooled up and cruising the flats while the gator trout bust topwaters in the morning and lay-up on the flats in late morning. Most days the bite is going all day! with the crystal clear water and low winter water levels sight fishing is exceptional this time of year on fly or spin.

Snook Season!

Snook season is open and the fishing is good! Getting multiple snook a night right now. The biggest challange is typically getting one “small” enough to keep! We are also seeing warly signs of the mullet run leading to some great tarpon fishing. It sounds like cinder blocks being dropped from a bridge when you get into a pack of feeding tarpon.
