After a warm and hearty greeting from captain Javi and KJ at the harbour, we went far out onto open sea were we started with trolling. Chances were good to get some little tunny, if we could locate them while they were on the hunt. As everyone knows, sometimes you need to be patient, but captain Javi had out fullest trust. It took us some time to find hunting fish, but when we did, we finally had our first strikes.
Unfortunatelly, we did not manage to hook them properly, but it was really spectactular seeing the tunny chase the little fish, while seagulls where hitting the surface to feed aswell.
Finally, it was just bad luck that after several strikes, we did not manage to properly hook and bring in our desired target fish. Hooks were sharp, found the hotspot, and the captain went far and beyond to find this honey hole. But we all know it, thatโs fishingโฆ sometimes itโs just not meant to beโฆ
As we were already an hour over our booked time, captain Javi and KJ decided to make a last attempt to bring us a nice trophy fish. And then, suddenly all hell broke lose! One of the rods bent hard, and the reel started singing like a fat opera lady on steroids. Our pulses went bonkers, since we knew we had hooked something big. I had a hard and long drill, and as the fish finally came up to the surface, we were all in complete awe to see that it was an imperial swordfish!!! What a freaking beauty! I brought it carefully to side of the boat where captain Javi was ready with a huge landing net. But the fish had other plans. In a last attempt, it tried to make a last run, and one of the free dangling trebles got caught in the net. The headshakes were so hard and powerful, that it managed to break the hardbait, bend the hooks straight (high quality Owner hooks) and escapeโฆ
Oh man, what a downer, we all couldnโt believe what just had happenedโฆ BUT: like i said before, thatโs fishing, and maybe that day, it just wasnโt meant to be.
After a few moments of disapointment, we were able to just be grateful to even have seen such an amazing fish (amongst other beautiful scenes, like a big sunfish cruising at the surface close to the boat). Next time, we will take them all!
To finish off the day, we took a slow drift over a plateau for some โfun fishingโ with jigging and bottom fishing, where we caught a lot of smaller fish in all varieties. I need to emphasize that this was already nearly two hours later than what we had paid for! So great respect to the captain and his first mate for sacrificing their sunday time and doing everything they could to provide us with the best fishing experience possible.
All in all, captain Javi and KJ are THE crew you want to hire if you want to have the most competent and BEST fishing trip in Barcelona. Thank you guys, we will meet again!
