I've been running my own boats and fishing trips since 1988 when I purchased my first boat. In 2009 we purchased our current boat, a 2001 Grady White 300 Marlin. I recieved my USCG Credentials in 2015 and am now living my dream of being a full time captain. For 45 years I've been absolutely nuts about fishing and everything outdoors. I've evolved however and my satisfactions now come from seeing others enjoy what I've enjoyed for so long. I have fished the far reaches of the Golden Gate coast to the upper Sacramento river and everywhere in between. My wife Sonya has been by my side for the past 29 years and she is a key component to my success and the success of Here We Go Sport Fishing.

    “Best Day Ever”

MORNING HALF DAY TRIP SF BAY4 adults2 children

We really had the best time with Captain Matt and his son Kyle. We took our boys (5 and 9) and it couldn’t have been a more perfect set up. The boat was comfortable for us all, and they were more than accommodating for us. We caught Halibut and Striped Bass — and even a shark! Our boys loved it sooo much and everyone had smiles on their faces all day. It’s makes the experience so much better when you are with good company for things like this. We can’t wait to go back and book with Captain Matt again. My youngest son even told him before we left “this was the best day ever!” They really did great to keep these boys involved as much as possible in the whole experience (while keeping us all safe too, which matters a lot to me!). You’ll make no mistake booking with Here We Go Sportfishing!

A great time was had by everyone

FULL DAY SF BAY FOR 4 OR MORE2 adults

Capt Matt was great. My friend and I love fishing back in the Florida Keys, and we couldnt have asked for a better introduction to PNW fishing than Matt. He was incredibly accommodating and was having just as much fun as we were! He was also very proactive when he noticed a spot wasnt producing, moving us asap! We left with fish, but even if we got skunked, Matt's demeanor made the trip fun! Thanks Matt!

    Excellent fishing!

    WINTER FISHING SPECIAL4 adults2 children

Captain Matt was outstanding - we had a wonderful day on the water. My wife and I brought our two kids with us, and everyone had a great time and caught fish. We were out on SF Bay, caught our limit in stripers plus a few large halibut. The boat was comfortable, safe and spacious (plenty of room for a few fish flopping around...), and Captain Matt handled everything with ease, right down to cleaning the fish after we got back to the dock. We also got lucky with some beautiful weather, which doesn't hurt. 10/10, highly recommend!

    Best birthday ever!

FULL DAY SF BAY FOR 4 OR MORE3 adults

We took our son on this trip for his 13th birthday. On the way home he kept saying this was the best birthday ever! He was excited about all the fish we caught but the first thing he told his friends about were the sharks. He got to touch a shark and didn’t loose a finger! Captain Matt is great. Very knowledgeable and I only mentioned one time that it was our son’s birthday in a message and Captain Matt remembered to wish him a happy birthday and gave him a great time. We will see you again Captain Matt!

FULL DAY STURGEON, 2 PERSON SPECIAL2 adults

Matt took us out sturgeon fishing in the delta on Jan. 1st for my birthday and I had the best day fishing !!! I've been on quite a few charters and I've not met a more hospitable and humble captain, not ever. His boat is nice all his equipment is top notch and he knows what he's doing. He is also fun to talk to. It never got awkward or boring, not for a second. I recommend him 100% and can't wait to go again! Thanks Matt! 👍👍👍

OCEAN SALMON REPORT 5/19/26

May 7, 2026 • Half Moon Bay
We are fishing in legal waters south of Pigeon Point. We have been on the fish since the opener on April 11th 2026 and most of the time there is not another boat in sight! The fish are coming in on a mix of bait and artifical lures. Anchovies have had a slight edge over lures but not by far. We will continue to use both! In our most recent trips, fish were cught from 40 feet down to 100'. We expect the fish come up even higher with the recent cooling we've seen. These fish are deep red-krill fed kings. The kind of fish you want to eat before you get off the boat! Our last two trips were wide open getting limits for clients and crew. The weather blew us off the last several days but we are excited to be back out this week starting on 5/20 with the best conditions of the year (cold water and life). These are rare and limited opportunities to fish lonely waters out of range of most recreational boats and catch some of the most desireable fish in the ocean. Dates are available through June 11th. Message Captain Matt with any questions or special requests!

Spring bite is on!

Mar 7, 2026 • Half Moon Bay
We are pleased to report that the fishing is on fire right now. On 3 back to back to back trips (March 6th, 7th and 8th) we had multiple hookups each day with most fish either coming over the rail or quickly released at the boat. With the warming waters we are seeing a much more aggressive bite and once we connect these fish are literally going airborn! Battling these fish is an opportunity of a life time. Weather is warmer and conditions have been epic. Don't just come and fish, but come and sit in the sun and enjoy some of the best conditions on the water anywhere right now! Sunshine/calm seas and epic vibes are on the menu. We will stop offering these trips on March 31st. Come enjoy this epic fishery before we move down river to the bay the first week of April

Spring bite is on 2/27

Mar 2, 2026 • Half Moon Bay
Rising water temps and good tides are creating peak season action. Our last trip produced 7 solid hookips with five beutiful sturgeon landed. We’ve seen fish to 86” this year and overall numbers are at historic highs. We will stay on these fish until mid April when we move to Emeryville to fish the San Francisco Bay and coastal waters for Halibut, Striped Bass, Salmon, Rock Fish/Lingcod and Tuna.

Sturgeon are biting!

Feb 2, 2026 • Half Moon Bay
We are enjoying epic early spring like weather with temps reaching the 60's on the water and the fish are responding. The water temp has risen approximately 2-3 degrees in the past week and rising water temps are resulting in more aggressive bites and often times more aggressive fights. We have been catching fish consistently since early January with fish up to 86" long. YES, 86" long!

Halibut are getting bigger

May 7, 2025 • Half Moon Bay
After a slow down the last couple of weeks due to big tides and cold water, bigger fish are coming over the rail in better numbers the past few days. Boats ate starting to report better numbers and better grade of Halibut from the central bay with Striped Bass being fairly consistent for the past 2 weeks. There are dates with good tides still available in May and later this summer. Get on the books while they’re still available.

The one that got away!

Mar 15, 2024 • Half Moon Bay
Our private charter of four made a strong call and agreed to postpone their day to Saturday due to high winds. It was the right call. 24 hours later and we had 70 degree temps with a light breeze. The day started out gorgeous with glass calm water and a beautiful 20 minute cruise out to where we've been getting fish recently. The timing was perfect as we put in right at the first push of water for the outgoing tide. It didn't take long, and as soon as we were done with our morning lesson on how the sturgeon bite, we got bit! It was game on with solid hook set. The fish took us for a ride around the boat, stayed close to home for a bit before lowering her shoulders and heading down river. It was almost time to pull the anchor and roll with the fish when our angler Joe did a great job of turning her around and getting her to work her way back to us. But she wasn't having it, and decided to turn her head again. When she did, there was a collective "sigh" when the tip of tthe road popped up in that all too familiar action. Yes, the hook pulled. Just a little too much pressure and the hook was'nt set as good as we thought. It was a great battle that lasted for 15 minutes and we're calling it a long distance release on a fish that was 100% an oversized Sturgeon that was going back regardless. We had some other missed solid opportunities, but the fish ended up being a little passive on their bites throughout a fairly large tide. We ended the day with a HOT under size that jumped completely out of the water before coming aboard and and our crew got to examine their first sturgeon. We have some March and early April dates available if you want to get in on the spring action, please let us know. Send a message, text, call or DM. You can find us on major Social Media Outlets and Online. Tight lines Captain Matt
