Half Day PM • 4 adults • 2 childrenWe had an amazing day fishing offshore and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Captain Brett was knowledgeable, professional, and worked hard to make sure everyone had a great time and stayed on fish throughout the trip. What really stood out was how wonderful he was with our children. He was patient, encouraging, and took the time to teach them about fishing while making sure they felt involved and excited. The boat was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything we needed for a successful day on the water. We caught plenty of fish, enjoyed watching dolphins, and had an overall fantastic experience. If you're looking for a fun, family-friendly fishing charter we highly recommend this trip.

Response from CaptainThanks for the charter! Despite hard East winds you all did well. Lots of action including many huge fish, probably Goliath grouper. You did great boating two, the kids did well with hard fighting fish. Goliaths were released in great shape, depth was 30ft.

Half Day Trip (AM) • 3 adultsWe had an amazing fishing trip and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We caught a few smaller fish and even managed to land two big sharks, which made the day really exciting. Our captain, Brett, was extremely competent, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire trip. He made sure everyone felt comfortable and knew what they were doing, and his positive attitude really added to the experience. Overall, we had a fantastic day on the water and would definitely book with him again next time. Highly recommended!

Half Day Trip (AM) • 2 adultsCaptain Brett was great. He spent the time to look for fish away from everyone else verses staying close to shore or being on top of other boats. Started with tripletail and ended with reef fishing for snapper, grouper, sheepshead, etc. He went pass out scheduled time because there was some bait left and he saw my son was having a lot of fun.

Five hours is a quick trip for an offshore charter. We had solid action with grouper and snapper plus a bonus Goliath caught on 15lb test. Quite the battel for the happy angler!

Goliaths!

I had a last-minute charter request; the guests had a charter cancel and wanted to get out. Their preference was offshore fishing. With east winds at 15-20mph, the conditions were suboptimal. But, the Free-Spirit is a capable vessel with a 10ft beam and a deep vee hull, it was doable. An East wind makes nearshore water leeward and calmer close in. We went about 5 miles out and it was a bit bumpy. Solid action on Atlantic Spadefish, not the best eating, but they fight hard and are often hungry. Guests have reported they eat just fine. Keeper grey snapper, and several breakoffs on large fish likely Goliath Grouper or Shark. We boated 2 Goliaths and lost maybe 6 more. Lots of action. Then we went inshore to calmer waters to find snook and snapper.

May 2026 Fishing Report
May 6, 2026 • Fort Myers
May is usually a calm sea month, but we had out share of windy conditions. The shallow grouper bite has been good with several keeper Reds and nice Gags plus Mangrove and Lane Snapper on live bottom. Artificial reefs produced gags, snapper and Spadefish.

Mid April Inshore Report

We have had a long period of strong wind 20mph with gusts to 30mph. Despite the winds good inshore fishing for Seatrout and Mackerel with several keepers. A few Trout 24" to 29" were caught and released. I expect the winds to laydown and will be heading offshore this week.

April Report - Sharks, Stone Crab, Cobia

April is often a great month with mild winds; however, we had plenty of windy/challenging conditions and also beautiful days. As a guest keep the conditions in mind when leaving a review, captains do not control the weather, meteorology must be a fake degree due to the wild inaccuracy of forecasts.
This was the last month for stone crabs, and we did well despite being late in the season. The inshore bite was off and on depending on conditions, some days over 20mph winds. Offshore the bite was solid with good numbers of grouper and other reef fish. Upon request I will shark fish, often at same reef fishing location for grouper, but with different gear. Plenty of big sharks were caught and released. A first for me was a client hooking a large sea turtle, which was promptly released. The tarpon are here and will stick around through early summer. May is usually a great month, book yourself a trip on the Free-Spirit Gag season is OPEN!

Rare Clear Water - Fishing - Spearfishin

A recent fishing charter stated they had limited time, only 4 hours, and wanted a specific target: Triple Tail. I said, "sure we can do that, I love Triple Tail". Unfortunately, the weather man was wrong as they tend to be 77.77% of the time. Finding Triple tail is best done on calm days with good sunlight, we had a cloudy day with bumpy seas; after an hour of effort and just 1 fish spotted, I decided on Plan-B. Which was to anchor on a shallow wreck in 30ft, the water was surprisingly clear, I could see the wreck. For you spear-fishers and freedivers, book a trip while the conditions last. Multiple sheepshead, snapper and break-offs of larger fish kept the anglers busy for the rest of the trip.
