After many hours of catching redfish, Pollock, mackerel, and cod. as we kept on fishing for the fun, smaller fish. Luke throughout a tuna rod just for the heck of it within about 15 minutes the rod started pulling off the reel started screaming! oh my gosh, we had one on. An incredible fight ensued. After over an hour of getting him to the boat twice and getting to see him crest one time he looks like something prehistoric. Our guide, who commercial for bluefin tuna approximated that it was about 600 pounds and 7 1/2 feet long. We were gonna have to release him anyway, because the season for recreational fishing was over. This season for commercial fishing was only certain days of the week in order to keep their fishing grounds in good health. The tune ran out the line again and DJ reeled, him back in to the boat as he got close to the boat Luke said he will either be tired enough that we could get a good picture of him in the water and release him or he would dive straight down and spin enough that his fin would cut the line. Unfortunately, that is what happened and you could see the end of the line was bent. but wow one an amazing day and one an adventure. We would highly recommend going out with Luke. In fact we were scheduled to do another day, but it was too windy to go out.

We went out with Captain Luke of Fish Acadia on June 30, 2025, for a ground fishing trip targeting Pollock, and it was an unforgettable experience for our whole family—my wife and I and our four kids.

From the start, Captain Luke made everyone feel comfortable and excited for the day ahead. On our way to the fishing grounds, he took us to a local island where we got to see seals lounging on the rocks—an unexpected and really fun bonus.

Once we got fishing, the action didn’t disappoint. We ended the day with an impressive haul of 52 fish, mostly Pollock, which kept everyone engaged and having a blast. Captain Luke was especially great with the kids—patient, encouraging, and eager to teach them not just about fishing techniques, but also about the local marine life and ecosystem.

To top it all off, we got to haul in four lobsters from his traps, which made for a delicious dinner and a great capstone to the day.

We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Captain Luke runs a top-notch operation, and we’d absolutely recommend Fish Acadia to anyone looking for a memorable and family-friendly fishing adventure around Mount Desert Island.

What an amazing day we had with Captain Luke and his first mate Ryan!! My the kids, wife and I booked the all day custom fishing trip and we could not have asked for a better Maine experience. We caught 3 halibut (1 we were able to keep), several other species of fish and even pulled in a few lobster pots with crabs and lobsters inside. Captain Luke took time to teach us so many interesting things about fishing and the area. I would strongly recommend this type of trip to anyone looking for the full Maine fishing experience. Our fishing trip with Fish Acadia aboard the Opportunity was an absolute highlight of our visit. Captain Luke and First Mate Jennifer were outstanding—professional, personable, and passionate about what they do. Their local knowledge, rooted in a lifetime of living and fishing in Maine, made the experience both educational and incredibly fun.

Our group caught well over 20 fish, thanks to Luke’s expert navigation and Jen’s attentive support. Every detail—from the gear to the guidance—was handled with care and confidence, making even the less experienced anglers in our group feel like pros.

We had a great time with Captain Luke! He accommodated us with our toddler (who was familiar with boating - don’t recommend with one who is not) for a morning scenic trip with lobster catching (7!) and an afternoon solo fishing for my husband.  I cannot recommend Luke enough.  He was amazing, knowledgeable and a local.  Plus, if you head down to Key Largo in the wintertime, he’ll be happy to charter you there, too!  His dog Koda was a bonus 🙂
