Our specialty is shadfish fishing (Tarpon), one of the species most appreciated by sport fishermen due to its strength, endurance and spectacular jumps. Depending on the season and the conditions of the day, you can also find species such as Robalo, Barracuda, horse mackerel, Cobia, sea trout and other characteristic species of the region.
Río Lagartos offers excellent opportunities for fly fishing, especially for those seeking the challenge of catching fish in shallow waters and unique natural environments. Fly fishing enthusiasts will find an ideal setting for chasing the mighty shad and other coastal species.
For fly fishing, we recommend that fishermen bring their own equipment, as most feel more comfortable using rods, reels and lines with which they are already familiar. This allows for better use of the experience and more efficient adaptation to fishing conditions.
The excursion takes place on board a 23-foot boat with capacity for up to 2 fishermen, equipped with everything you need for a safe and comfortable day on the water.
The fishing licence is included in the service. We recommend bringing sunglasses, hats, light clothing and ecological sunscreen to make the most of the experience.

It was an inexperienced guide speaking a bit of english who didnt look like he new much about fishing and a young capt who knew more. I asked to go for any speacies that would bite, just to catch something. They insisted on fishing with plastic lures, no live bait. Did not give us good directions on techniques. we tryed a couple of spots, no luck. Good boat, good lunch and drinks.

Dear Loïc, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your fishing experience did not meet your expectations. On the day of your trip, we first took you to one of our most productive fishing areas, especially known for barracuda and juvenile tarpon. This spot is normally very consistent, and even our local captain — whose family has fished these waters for generations — was surprised by the lack of activity that day. When we saw that the fish were not biting, we decided to move to another area to increase your chances. As a last effort to save the day, we even entered the mangroves to try fly-fishing style casting, even though fly fishing is a separate service and not included in this trip. Unfortunately, fly fishing in this region works best early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and combined with the sudden change in weather and increased swell, the conditions were not favorable. Despite this, we truly did our best to adapt and try different techniques and locations. We appreciate your positive comments about the boat, food, and drinks, and we take your feedback seriously as we continue improving our service.
