Claudio and his mate, Joao, took our family (4 kids ages 14-8) out for an amazing day on the water. We tried hard to catch a tuna but they weren’t having it. Claudio was tracking them well. We could see them jumping out of the water, they just weren’t biting. We even tried switching to catch mackerel and they too were not cooperating. We did get to see some Dolphins and amazing views of the coastline. Claudio was an incredible host, Joao endured our boys endless questions 🤪 and there was enough food and drink for an army! All in all it was a great day and we will gladly try again with the Red Hunter crew if we find ourselves in Portugal again.

Landing a 300 kg, 2.65 m Atlantic bluefin tuna is the kind of experience that stays with you forever. From the moment the fish took the bait, it was clear this wasn’t an ordinary catch. The first run was explosive, peeling line off the reel with incredible power and testing both the tackle and everyone on board. The fight demanded patience, teamwork, and endurance. Every gain was met with another powerful surge, reminding us why bluefin tuna are considered one of the strongest game fish in the ocean. After a long, hard battle, seeing the fish finally surface was an unforgettable moment. Its immense size, deep metallic blue back, and silver sides were truly breathtaking. At 2.65 metres long and weighing approximately 300 kilograms, this bluefin was a magnificent specimen and a testament to the strength and resilience of the species. The capture highlighted the importance of using quality equipment, experienced boat handling, and responsible fishing practices to ensure the fish was handled with respect and in accordance with local regulations. This was far more than just catching a big fish—it was a test of skill, determination, and respect for the ocean. Moments like these remind you why big-game fishing is so captivating. It’s an achievement that few anglers ever experience, and one that will be remembered for a lifetime. We had an absolutely fantastic day out with Red Hunter and couldn’t recommend Captain Claudio and his team highly enough. From the moment we stepped on board, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. The day started with a wonderful breakfast, which set the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional experience from start to finish. Captain Claudio and the crew got us fishing almost immediately, and we were catching fish straight away. Their knowledge, professionalism and enthusiasm were evident throughout the day. The team were constantly on hand to help, changing bait, offering advice, adjusting tackle and moving to different locations to keep us on the fish. Nothing was too much trouble. The lunch prepared on board was absolutely delicious and a real highlight of the day. As for the fishing itself, it exceeded all expectations. Between the four of us, we must have caught around 100 fish, with an incredible variety of different species throughout the day. The combination of great hospitality, expert local knowledge, outstanding service and fantastic fishing made for a truly memorable trip. We would highly recommend Red Hunter to anyone looking for a first-class fishing charter experience. We’ll definitely be back and are already looking forward to booking a tuna fishing trip with Captain Claudio and the team in the near future.

We loved our trip with Captain Claudio and Jon. We did both bottom fishing where we caught in a ton of Sophia fish and Mackerels. We then trolled for big game fish but it was the beginning of the season so not so much luck there. The captain and mate prepared a wonderful spread of bread cheeses, meats, fruits and veggies with beer and water. They were also very helpful with checking the bait on our lines. Would highly recommend if you visit the Algarve region. Awesome!

We had a wonderful day with Claudio! We were a party of 6 with various experience levels in fishing. It was a bit too windy to fish for snapper, so we instead fished closer to shore for sea bream and caught a variety of fish. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack were provided, quite tasty. A great option for experienced fishermen or those simply looking for an enjoyable day on the water!
