Redfish are the Gulf Coast’s favorite inshore game fish, and Mississippi is built for them. Shallow bays, grassy marshes, and warm water give Redfish everything they need. Anglers come for steady action, hard fights, and great photo moments with bronze tails.
Most trips focus on inshore fishing in the Mississippi Sound, bays, and marsh edges. Captains use live shrimp, mullet, or crab, along with spoons and soft plastics. Sight casting on clear flats is a thrill, and fly fishing works when fish tail on calm mornings. A popping cork, which keeps bait near the surface and makes noise, often draws hungry strikes.
Charter days are simple and fun. You’ll ride in a stable bay boat with room to cast and move. This suits families, first-timers, and seasoned anglers alike. Bring sun protection, a hat, polarized sunglasses, drinks, and snacks. Your captain usually supplies rods, reels, and bait. Expect quick runs between spots, chances at slot-size fish, and the possibility of a trophy “bull” Redfish when conditions line up.
Mississippi offers prime Redfish water from Bay St. Louis and Gulfport to Biloxi Bay and Ocean Springs. The Mississippi Sound and the barrier islands, including Cat, Ship, and Horn, provide grass flats, oyster bars, and current seams that hold fish. Marsh drains near Pascagoula and along the coastal estuaries are classic feeding lanes, especially on moving tides.
Before you go, check Mississippi’s fishing license rules and whether your charter covers them. Review local seasons, harvest limits, and any special regulations for Redfish and other species. Rules can change, so confirm details close to your trip.
