1st Time Charter

? David and Kyle from D&W Excavating were up for a family vacation but managed to sneak away for a Lake Erie Islands Walleye casting charter to kick off their weekend! We targeted shallow rock piles in 8-12 feet of water. Between Walleye bites, the Catfish and a few large sheephead kept everyone on their and their persistence paid off as they boxed a nice limit and even added a couple of quality bluegill to the mix. The hot setup for the day was gold-bladed harnesses paired with 3/4 oz weights. ? **Lake Erie Fishing Report** ? Another great client experience on Lake Erie with a well-traveled and seasoned angler aboard today! Running a solo trip, I asked Tim if he'd mind if my longtime captain friend, Terry, joined us for the day. Without hesitation, Tim said, "Absolutely." We met at the East Harbor Marina docks and pointed the boat north out of West Harbor in search of active fish. It didn't take long. On our very first drift, the rods started firing and we put our first walleye on ice. The opening drift produced three fish on gold harnesses paired with 1 oz weights. We made a long east-to-west drift beneath Kelleys Island, picking through a mixed bag of fish but finding very few legal walleyes. After a slight adjustment to our drift line and presentation, the program came together. Running 3/4 oz weights at a splash-count cadence, we began steadily putting quality walleyes in the boat. Before long, everyone was into the action. The bite became so consistent that we were releasing fish to grow and fight another day. ? ? Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report – BlackH2oDog Charters ? ? Some trips are about the fish, and some are about the people. Today's crew was both. Mike, brothers Bill and Rick, and their close friend Bryan have fished with me each of the last six years. Mother Nature forced us to reschedule their original trip, but today's payoff was worth the wait. We were treated to a beautiful Lake Erie sunrise and ended the day with a cooler full of walleye they'll be enjoying until we hit the water together again. The day wasn't short on excitement! We had a little case of the Lake Erie flu ?, discovered a commercial net with our entire spread deployed, and somehow managed to get every line back in without tangling in the net. Well... almost everything. One stickbait came flying into the boat and found Mike's palm. ?? Mike patiently waited while the crew cleared lines before mentioning it. Let's just say everyone got a quick hands-on lesson in hook removal! ?? While we were working our way through the net situation, we made a quick radio call to a boat directly behind us and warned them to turn hard. They avoided disaster and escaped with only a Dipsey grabbing the net. After tracking back, we located the North net marker with " flags" that looked more like streamers than proper net markers. Once back in business, the walleye cooperated nicely. We put together a steady haul of quality Lake Erie fish, although we also had our share of fish that came unbuttoned just shy of the net.
