Striped Marlin Caught, Blue Got Away

The bite was slow, with a big storm swell rolling through. We managed to catch a sailfish—the highlight of an otherwise quiet trip.

The striped marlin kept us busy, with a few sailfish in the mix too! The change in water made a difference. We caught two striped marlin, lost a few other billfish, and landed a tuna for dinner. Good action and fresh fish to wrap things up!

Good overall action on striped marlin and dorado, with fish of solid quality showing up. The water is sitting around 76°F, with a healthy presence of flying fish and squid holding the area together. Things really came alive from around 9 AM, once the ocean flattened out. From there on, trolling produced steady action, with both marlin and dorado responding well as conditions settled. A good sign of what’s building right now, with the right water and bait in place.
