Deep Sea Fishing in New Orleans

Thanks to its proximity to the deep reaches of the Gulf of Mexico, offshore fishing in New Orleans and nearby towns is nothing short of fantastic. Add to that 3,700 oil rigs, each a habitat for a number of tasty fish and you're in for a treat. Sign up for a trip with one of the deep sea fishing charters in New Orleans and experience it for yourself.

As elsewhere in the gulf, big game fishing means you're in for a fight to remember. Pelagic species are the most popular targets on these kinds of trips. Specifically, we're talking about Tuna, Marlin, Swordfish, and Mahi Mahi. On the other hand, you can also do some bottom fishing and deep dropping for a number of Groupers and Snappers.

But when's the best time to go fishing in these parts? Honestly, it depends on what you're looking to reel in. For Marlin, June–October is your best bet. Swordfish pear earlier in the year, from April to June. Like you'd expect Red Snapper are strictly a summertime option. Finally, Tuna fish is good throughout the year so any time is a good time to be on the water!

The length of a deep sea fishing trip out of New Orleans will depend on exactly where you're setting sail from. Trips from New Orleans proper are rare because there are several smaller towns closer to the Gulf of Mexico that are just a short drive away. These allow you to reach deeper waters even on a shorter trip. But if you're looking for the ultimate big game adventure, you'll need to set a full day aside.

What a day with Capt. Brad! Capt. Brad put us on the specs, large specs, 17-19 inches in the morning. Late morning, early afternoon put us on the reds, sheepshead and drum. Could not ask for a more friendly, professional and fun captain to spend the day with. Recommend the full day and will be booking with Speck Dat Charters in the future! Thanks Capt. Brad for a memorable/ unforgettable day with my son. See you soon!

We caught a monster!

What a great trip! Capt.Mackie knew exactly where to go, even though other boaters said they hadn't caught anything there. My 8 year old reeled in a 5'11" gar as his first fish of the day! At one point we had to huge gar on the boat at the same time. Definitely recommend.
