Whether you’re on vacation with your family and want to chase Hammerhead Sharks or are bent on reeling in a Wahoo, the crew will make sure you get a bang for your buck.
Year-round, Captain Derrick takes numerous anglers on fishing trips that are rewarding, filled with fish, and enjoyable. Capt. Derrick has been fishing since he was 8 and has fished out of Galveston for the past decade. He has been a full time guide for the last five years and has put scores of fishing enthusiasts on fish.
Derrick will welcome you aboard his 26 foot center console. She is powered by twin 200 HP suzuki’s engines and is a reliable vessel to take you out . The boat features GPS, a fishfinder, VHF radio, stores all the safety gear, has an ice box, a live bait well, and a selection of fishing gear by Ugly Sticks and Penn. The boat can take up to six people.
Fishing trips with Capt. Derrick will see you fishing the jetty waters where you can sample tablefare and go home with Redfish, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder, or Sheepshead. But that’s not all. Head nearshore and target Cobia, King Mackerel, Snapper, or Sharks, or take a trip 50 miles offshore to battle with Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna. It’s your call.
When packing for the trip, remember to bring a valid saltwater fishing license. Please note that some trips don’t include fuel costs and that you will need to cover those. The captain will supply all the fishing gear, bait, tackle, and lures. You should bring food, drinks, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a camera.

Our captain Cody was great! He was really nice and knowledgeable. He made sure we caught some good fish and we ended up catching a 150lb stingray, several sharks and some trout. I would definitely recommend In The Zone Charters to others and will be using them again.

Captain Saul was great!
Half Day Trip–Jetty (AM) on July 4, 2025
Captain Saul got us going quick at the first sight. The boat was plenty big and the equipment was nice. We were out fishing pretty quickly.. We caught mostly trout and Saul was quick on baiting the hooks when we needed it. It was a great first time saltwater trip for us..

We had 4 guys and 2 boys (9 &10) and we had a blast! The weather wasn’t great, but captain Derrick and crew made sure we still had a great time and we always felt safe with them. You won’t be disappointed!

Saul is the man!
Half Day Trip–Jetty (AM) on June 18, 2025
We had an great trip out with Saul. He kept things interesting, had lots of fun stories to share and entertained a barrage of questions from us. Highly recommend him and In the Zone Fishing! Being from MN, we have fished a lot. This was an amazing experience for ny wife and I. Sharks and a giant stingray!

We had Captain Saul and he was great. There was nobody catching anything the day we went, but he gave it his all. We did catch fish just not many. I’m satisfied with the effort that Saul put in. We tried many different locations - they just weren’t biting that day v

I have been fishing and boating for most of my life and have been guiding full time the past 8 years. I consider fishing more passion than sport and it is my goal is to make every angler aboard the Contender feel as if they are fishing with a friend, not a guide. I love to target all species of fish, but my favorite thing to fish for is shark. Most people enjoy a great fight, and pound for pound, a big shark is the best fighting fish you can possibly catch.
