Background: I have been fishing since the age of 8 and have been a resident of Galveston Island, Texas for the past 14 years. I have been fishing and boating for most of my life and have been guiding full time the past 8 years. I consider fishing more passion than sport and it is my goal is to make every angler aboard the Contender feel as if they are fishing with a friend, not a guide. I love to target all species of fish, but my favorite thing to fish for is shark. Most people enjoy a great fight, and pound for pound, a big shark is the best fighting fish you can possibly catch.

The bite has been hot multiple large red fish, lots of different species of sharks as of lately, one of the biggest ones have been a 6 1/2 foot tiger, shark some trout, some keeper, red fish, stingrays, Spanish mackerel, Pompano and various other fish. The weather is hot but the fish have been eating.

3/4 Day Trip–Jetty (AM)

We went on the 6 hour with Travis and started out catching bait fish. He was super knowledgable and fun during the whole trip. Since we did a 6 hour (which I absolutely reccommend over the 4), he let us try different areas to fish multiple times since the extra couple of hours allowed us as such. We wouldn’t have caught these sharks on the 4! He cleaned our sharks for us and even made perfect pieces ready to give to the marina restaraunt to cook up! Super nice guy and we can’t wait to go back... More

thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to take you guys out and yes, the six hours always recommended because sometimes you need time to hunt the fish down and find them and if the smaller fish are not cooperating, you can always chase big things like sharks and red fish and we see you guys had a fantastic trip. Hope to see you again.

This trip will be a story for years. We started with a mishap, But Captain Chop saved the day! He knew exactly where to go, and we had more bites than we could handle. Had a great time chatting while they cut and bagged the catch. I would make the trip again without hesitation.

Absolute blast! Captain Travis was awesome and made this trip even better than we expected. My son is already asking when we can come back—but he said it has to be with Capt. Travis! 😂 We caught plenty of fish for dinner, and my son even got to reel in a shark, which absolutely made his day! If you’re looking for a fun, memorable trip, bring your little fishermen!
