Pirate For Hire Chart fishes the backcountry, flats and the Glades for the likes of Redfish, Snook, Tarpon, Permit, Trout, Mackerel, Snapper, Grouper and many others. There’s hot action year round, and you won’t miss out when fishing with this crew. Whether it’s serious fishing, or a custom trip, Capt. Ron’s got you covered.

Pirate for Hire is a 247 Master Sportsman, Bay Boat, powered by 250HP Yamaha, with a maximum capacity of four fishermen. The boat is spacious, quick and outfitted with all the necessary gear for both casual outings and serious fishing excursions. The vessel comes equipped with quality fishing as well as navigational gear, including 12 inch Garmin GPS touch screen and fish finder.

Captain Ron, a 3rd generation pro fisherman, has spent his whole life fishing. He’s been at the helm of vessels ranging from 16’ to 65’ in size, and has served as a professional deckhand for over 6 years. He started fishing back in 1982, and has fished as north as North Carolina and as south as the bonefish-rich Bahamas. Islamorada, however, has always had a special place in his heart, both as his home and as one of Florida’s eminent fishing grounds. Captain Ron’s got more commercial fishing experience than many, however his true passion remains providing people with a fishing trip they won’t forget on the productive waterways of Florida keys.

All fishing gear, bait and licenses are covered by the Captain at no additional cost. Ron prefers fishing with live bait on almost every trip all throughout the year, and will be happy to clean and filet your catch following the trip.

Had an outstanding time today with Captain Ron. I absolutely recommend Captain Ron if you are down in the keys, and need a backcountry/bay Captain that not only knows what he is doing, but his patient and hard-working. I have been looking for a good backcountry/bay Captain for over 10 years down here now. I have tried many. Captain Ron far exceeded my expectations and what I am looking for in a Captain. Captain Ron worked tirelessly to put us on fish and get us a nice cooler full of fish which he cleaned for us. He is a super nice guy and again, to find a hard-working Captain that actually shows up with bait is very rare down here. At least in my experience. Captain Ron made a lifelong customer today due to his exceptional skills and an awesome trip. We will definitely be back in a few weeks and will be going out with Captain Ron again for sure Thanks, Captain Ron for an awesome day!

“…A Pirates Life For Me”

VERIFIED

3/4 Day on February 26, 2025

Great trip. “Pirate For Hire” is an excellent charter service. Traveled from Islamorada towards Flamingo in Everglades NP. Made several stops during the trip and caught fish at each. Some tough conditions for catching with a new cold front having moved through leaving colder water. Also, less than ideal tidal movement making some potential fishing spots inaccessible due to low water. Despite the conditions, snook, jacks, and lots of speckled trout were caught. No hesitation in making a return trip. Captain Ron was an excellent Guide and fishing companion.

Great Guide

VERIFIED

Half Day Trip (AM) on March 27, 2025

Captain Ron was great. He knew right where to go and put us in the fish early. When the bite slowed down, we moved. When we suggested another species, ge knew right where to go. We caught 40-50 fish and about 6 different species. He even let my son hand-feed some tarpon off the boat back at the dock, which was very nice considering the trip was over and he was cleaning the boat at that point. Just an all around great guy and guide. No complaints here. Highly recommended and will book again on our next trip down here.

Captain Ron is the best. We booked the 730am charter and very happy that we did. He took us to a couple very active spots where we were catching fish almost immediately upon arrival. Those fish include: jack fish, red snapper, trout, lady fish, and Goliath Grouper! A shark almost ate the grouper while reeling it! Came right up to the boat. Finally, our last 30 minutes of the trip we reeled in a 6 foot 160lb shark! Captain Ron gave us a great trip that will remember for a lifetime. Thanks!

Bucket list trip

VERIFIED

3/4 Day on April 9, 2025

I had a great fishing trip with Captain Ron. Not only did I get to check off fishing in the Florida Keys from my bucket list, I got the opportunity to witness the Florida Everglades firsthand. Caught some nice trout for dinner and saw a saltwater crocodile, manatee and tarpon. Captain Ron went above and beyond to make this a memorable experience for me. Already plan to come back in the future. Highly recommend Captain Ron to anyone wanting a great experience.

The Angler's Choice Award is given to listings that consistently deliver a high-quality service and earn great reviews from customers.

Ron has fished all over the states and beyond, but to him, there's no better place to settle down and fish than the proven waterways of Islamorada. In addition to giving his customers a fishing trip to remember, Captain Ron also holds fishing seminars and has penned numerous articles on fishing in major publications. Not only is Ron a knowledgable captain, but is also a great guide who will help you have a nice time out on the water.
