It’s also a hotbed of top angling action! For some, the idea of fishing such a vast body of water might be intimidating – not so for Captain Mauricio Oñate. He warmly invites you to join him aboard Buenos Aires Delta Aventura, where you’ll get a first-class introduction to this fantastic fishery!
Capt. Mauricio is a true lifelong fisherman. He’s been wielding a rod since he was 3 years old, and has over 35 years of experience when it comes to these waters. As well as providing trips targeting the river’s hottest spots, he also loves teaching people all about the different species that call Rio de la Plata home, such as the picture-perfect Golden Dorado and tasty Pejerrey. This includes the best ways to catch them, of course!
You’ll be traveling on board your captain’s 22’ Silver Boat center console, newly built in 2018 and ready to transport up to 5 guests out onto the river. She’s rigged with top-of-the-line fishing amenities, including GPS and fishfinder, life jackets for ages 12 and up, and a full toilet located in the center console. You’ll be navigating these waters in plenty of comfort and safety.
As well as the famous Golden Dorado, huge Catfish like to call these waters home. You’ll have the chance to hook local varieties such as Bagre Amarillo (Yellow Catfish) and Bagre Blanco (White Catfish) – these fish can reach up to 20 kilos here! In addition, Tararira (Wolf Fish) and tasty Pejerrey (Silverside) are also on offer. Capt. Mauricio will show you the best techniques to use, from bottom fishing to spinning when the waters are clear.

An Amazing Experience
Half Day Trip (AM) on March 27, 2025
We had the perfect day and experience with Captain Mauricio! he exceeded our expectations and made a memorable trip for my family. He was a great communicator and made coordination easy. He offered a pickup direct from our house, but we wanted to drive our rental and parking was close and very convenient. We were after Golden Dorado and the captain delivered! We caught 3 and lost a few more. We also caught a few catfish. You could tell he was focused on getting us golden dorado and was genuinely excited to celebrate with us! He was great with my kids (14 and 11) and was very good at teaching us what to do. He treated us to fresh pastries, sandwiches and cold drinks which we did not expect! He took different routes to and from fishing which allowed us to see more of the area which was awesome. He told us how to prepare our catch to eat, which turned out to be amazing. We had a great trip with Captain Mauricio from beginning to end. His driver picked us up at the hotel, took us to the port and brought us back to the hotel when we were finished. The Captain took care of everything. Snacks, sandwiches and all drinks were provided. He put us on fish all day. We landed four or five Golden Dorados and many different types of catfish. The Captain was extremely knowledgeable and had all the rods and bait we needed for the trip. Fishing with Mauricio Onates for 4 hr trip is a great experience for Buenos Aires , Argentina area. We were picked up and returned from where we were staying. The boat was great for my wife and myself. Live bait and tackle were provided for us, so no need to bring anything except sunscreen and head cover. The location captain took us to held the fish we were in search of! We caught the south American Dorado there. Captain provided snacks and a great lunch we didn't expect. Full Day Trip on January 18, 2025
We were skeptical of going on the trip after hearing about bad weather, but Mauricio assured us that it was nothing and I’m so glad that we listened. He was right. At most we caught a little light drizzle for a few minutes. But we also caught fish after fish. Dorados, catfish, even a piranha (which we had never seen before). Plus he brought us to the most beautiful places in the Delta to catch them. It was fishing in paradise. The bait and tackle was ready for us when we got onboard, live eels and different fish and good rod and reels with some tackle for angling. We fished both ways. He even brought first class food like media lunas and a charcuterie plate, which we ate on an actual table on the boat. He was super informative and friendly and really showed us what what a real Argentine sportsman is all about. I couldn’t say enough good things about him or the trip. And this was our second day fishing in Buenos Aires. It wasn’t even comparable. Mauricio outclassed the other guide by a long shot. At one point he got a hook all the way through his hand and we had to cut the barb and pull it out. He didn’t even miss a beat. We just kept on fishing. A hell of a trip!

What a fabulous day out fishing with Mauricio! His boat and equipment are top notch. His knowledge of the body of water was great, put us onto the fish. I caught 6 Golden Dorado, a catfish and a piranha. With many more that got away. My wife enjoyed the boat ride and suntanning, she isn’t a fisher person, but she enjoyed the day as well. The food and drinks provided was top notch. Transfer from our hotel in BA to the marina in Tigre was smooth. 5+ star day, I would recommend this to anyone, seasoned fisherperson, novice or those that just want to cruise and suntan.
