We had a fantastic charter out of Juneau today! The weather was typical Southeast Alaska—off and on wet—but it never turned into a full downpour, and the boat handled the mildly choppy waters incredibly smoothly. Along the way, we were treated to some amazing wildlife sightings, including Bald Eagles, Dall’s Porpoises, and even a whale spout. What really set this trip apart, though, was the crew. Honestly, this was one of the best charter crews I have ever fished with. Deckhand Ibra was incredibly personable, patient, and helpful from start to finish. He kept everyone taken care of and made the day run seamlessly. Captain Ben was top-tier. He has a great personality, a quick sense of humor, and kept everyone’s spirits high and encouraging even when the bites slowed down. What I appreciated most was his initiative to teach us a bit while we fished—he explained how and why the downriggers worked, shared insights on current local fish management strategies, and taught us about the different species. When we did hook into something, his enthusiasm was contagious. As for the catch, our boat of five landed four halibut, one chum salmon, and one very large king salmon. While we had hoped for a few more bites, some days are just like that, and the crew did everything they could to put us on the fish. Overall, it was a thoroughly pleasant experience, and I would highly recommend booking a trip with Captain Ben and Ibra. We’d absolutely fish with them again!
After booking the charter I got a hold of the charter company through the App and they were helpful. We got picked up right by the cruise ship. Captain Tim and Sam helped us out and they took us to Captain Tim's favorite spot. We put the lines in the water and was helped by Sam to learn how to Halibut fish. Within the first hour of fishing we had limited out on Halibut and one person even caught a Cod fish. Tried some Salmon fishing and they weren't biting and came back to the dock. Great experience even though we didn't get any salmon.
Cameron and Austin were GREAT guys very knowledgeable and fun to be around. Had 5 people on the boat who were also fun to be around. Caught halibut, cod, and rock fish weather was also great even saw whales and dolls porpoises. Overall it was a great experience would highly recommend.
With excellent conditions we went to an area that wasn't heavily fished. The equipment was in good condition, but one rod was nearly out of line and caused some downtime while line was added. There were several periods of 15 minutes where lines were tangled and had to be cut/spliced. The boat was full (6) and this may have contributed. Due to everyone trying to untangle lines and get fish into the boat, we ended up not getting pictures of our catch.
My son and I did a fishing trip and the Capt and crew made sure it was a great experience. Had a blast with my son and 4 other individuals looking for the same kind of experience. Thank you so much! Trip is awesome for those with or without experience. Though you can get your licence and stamps from the boat it is easier if you have them in hand upon arrival. Capt and Crew helped get everything we needed.
Having lived in southeast Alaska for most of his life, it's no wonder that Captain Grantley is such a fishing nut. He brings to the boat plenty of enthusiasm, energy, and knowledge of the local area, giving you a real insight into the rich waters you'll be fishing. The whole team is well versed in the Alaskan waters and know every nook and cranny of Juneau's seas. Let them show you the stunning sights, whales, and incredible sport fishing adventures. 'FISH ON,' as Capt. Grantley likes to say!
