Great Trip & Team

VERIFIED

Extreme Offshore on April 2, 2025

We had an incredible trip with Captain Andy and mates, Ere and Jose. These guys were nothing short of a well-oiled machine. Everything was dialed in perfectly—from having all the tackle rigged and ready to go, managing an 8-rod trolling spread, constantly adjusting to maximize our chances of a hookup. From the fishing to the food to the genuinely friendly service, the entire experience was top-notch—unlike anything you’ll find in the States. We landed two big yellowfin tuna, which Ere and Jose quickly filleted and served us fresh sashimi right on the boat while we continued trolling. We also brought in a nice sailfish. It was an unforgettable day on the water with our six-man crew—truly a great time all around.

Luminary Boat and Crew is THE way to go for Jacó Fishing!

VERIFIED

Extreme Offshore on March 6, 2025

I have fished in Costa Rica for many years and I can't think of any of my trips that were as fabulous as this one was. Firstly, the boat is the best one I have ever fished from in CR. A fiberglass roof keeps the sun from draining your energy and burning your skin. The comfortable cushions and vinyl sides keep spray from drenching you at high boat velocity. Secondly, the Capt and his crew worked tirelessly to put us on fish (4 boated 6' plus Sails) and a huge yellowfin tuna that didn't quite take the bonito bait entirely so we lost that one. The old adage, It's fishing, not catching" proves true again. We also moved about when things died down and the crew was dedicated to putting us on fish. Every request was met by Capt Andy, mates Ere and José. My fishing partner and I made life-long friends in one trip. These guys and their boat are true professionals and I highly recommend them if you desire a "check the box" experience for bill fishing and Sport fishing!

Blue Marlin Bucket List - check

VERIFIED

Extreme Offshore on January 22, 2025

Extreme offshore fishing. Starting off with great communication with Captain Pedro texting and keeping us informed was great. He texted us the week before to confirm and the day before with the expected time to depart we could go earlier so we left at 6:10am. They picked us up at the Marriott beach with a small boat to the deeper water on the Luminare. We met Captain Andy and the crew Eric and Juan. I brought my 82yr old father that is in good shape, Eric went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable for the rude out. The fishing equipment was rigged and ready to go. The beam was at least 12ft and had ample room for fishing including a fighting chair. 30mi out and the trolling spread was in. Eric and Juan had the 5 teasers and 5 lines in the water in just a few minutes. As a fisherman with my own boat, it was evident these guys knew what they were doing. The spread was perfectly designed for Marlin/Sailfish with naked ballyhoo on the main lines. Checking off the Blue Marlin from my bucket list was the goal! It wasn't long and a knockdown strike and soon I was connected towards what we would soon find out was a Blue Marlin! After the first sounding of the fish, he came straight up and skyrocketed out of the water on an epic aerial display of its greatness and beautiful shiny silver sides and dark top angrily shaking it's head to get rid of the hook! Heart pending with excitement and a proud display of goose bumps in 75 degree weather it was time for the work to begin. Eric and Juan were experts in the cockpit and Captain Andy kept the fish on the right position of the boat to fight, backing down, maneuvering on the 5 or 6 times the Marlin was close, saw the boat, and decided to take back off. I found the fish stand up and my back was cramping. Eric saw my discomfort and started massaging the cramp. Amazing relief. And the fight was still on. 1 hr into the fight, the fish was at the back of the boat when he gave his last 20ft tail walking attempt to shake the hook. And letting us see the whole fish to further appreciate his strength and grandure. Shortly after we touched the leader making it an official catch. He took back off and 20 minutes later Eric acting lineman expertly pulled the fish in where we had him boatside for a few pictures. The fish was in great shape still and it was pulled out for a quick photo, after which I thanked the fish, and placed back in the water where we pulled him along gently aside the boat getting oxygen back into his system until he fought away and went back into the deep cobalt blue water from which he came. High fives all around. What a day already. Another hour and a sailfish was on the teasers. And so began what we call the dance. This is what the crew does to hook the fish and clear the other lines and teasers. These guys were amazing. The fish was on and my dad jumped in the fighting chair and was on his first Sailfish. More epic aerial displays! Soon the fish was in for a picture aside the boat and a quick release. Could this get any better? In short, yes! We went further out to try to catch a yellowing tuna to complete an offshore pelvic slam. Captain Andy found them! But we could not get them to bite. They had perfect live baits tried flat lines on top and used a downriver deep. Nothing so we headed back in. Another Marlin came into the spread ripped of a large lure from the back of a teaser. The dance was on and lines were dropped back to the fish but it wouldn't eat. 30 mins later another Sailfish, then another, two more short bites where they hit the bait short of the hook. Then a nother Sailfish close by using its bill to swat at the bait fish and jumping out of the water several times. I didn't mention lunch sandwiches and fresh pineapple, plenty of drinks! Great personalities and experts on the boat. You can't have a better day fishing! It wasn't

Captain Pedro, Captain Andy, Eric, and Juan are passionate about ensuring every guest has an exceptional trip, and it sounds like they went above and beyond for you and your father. It’s amazing to hear about your successful Blue Marlin catch—what an accomplishment! The detailed account of your fight with the Marlin, your father’s first Sailfish, and the teamwork on board truly capture the excitement of the day. We’re also glad to know you enjoyed the hospitality on the boat, from the fresh lunch and drinks to the crew’s expertise and attention to comfort. Experiences like yours remind us why we do what we do, and we’re grateful to have been part of such unforgettable memories for you and your dad. Fantastic day - professional set up.

VERIFIED

If you want to catch fish go with this crew.. what an experience! I had a full day heading out 40 miles to target some big fish and the captain (Andy) exactly how to find them. After steaming through a sizeable swell for an our and a half to get the deep fishing grounds we got the tackle in the water it wasn’t too long before we had a nice Sail fish on and after a good fight was landed and released. We kept trawling whist heading further out until the crew spotted a huge school of dolphin’s hunting down yellowfin tuna. With Andy’s experience he kept ahead of the dolphins whilst the crew changed the rigs for tuna and sure enough it wasn’t long before we had our first of of 3 big tuna. These fish put up some fight and although hard work are great fun to land. The guys filleted the fish as we slowly headed back in and prepared some lovely sashimi with fresh tuna … beautiful! This is a very professional set up and the guys know there job very well. The boat very clean and very well looked after with plenty space. After fishing in quite a few places I hadn’t caught the yellowfin so this is ticked off the bucket list in great style. Thank you guys!

Full Day Trip on December 30, 2024

Capt. Pedro made our first trip to CR so easy and coordinated every detail for us. We arrived at the boat and everything was prepared and ready to go. Capt. Andy got us on fish very quick. We caught all the tuna we wanted. He got my youngest son on a large blue marlin that he successfully landed for pictures. We were able get a double hookup on Sailfish. One got off but my older son was able to get a few pictures with it. Jose & Eric were great! They worked very hard to make sure our trip was comfortable and successful. Fresh tuna Sashimi made on the boat was a new experience for us and it was great. We would fish with Luminaire again and will be recommending this outfit to our friends.
