Honolulu is often described as the “racing pulse” of Hawaii, and an adventure aboard Five Star Sportfishing Hawaii more than helps the city live up to this reputation. Jump aboard – it’s time to get those pulses racing!
It’s safe to say that a love for angling inhabits every part of the Five Star Sportfishing Hawaii team and owner - Capt. John’s life. He’s been fishing as a hobby for as long as he can remember, was part of the Marine Corps for over 27 years, and got his first captain’s license in 2005. In 2018, he decided to relocate to Hawaii and start running charters here. Now, he’s running his charter business together with Capt. Chris Rubin and thinks Hawaii is one of the best places in the world to chase Marlin and Mahi Mahi and loves introducing guests to these waters.
You’ll be casting off on board a 38’ Bertram offshore sport fishing vessel. She’s capable of accommodating up to 6 guests, and you’ll be able to troll 6 lines in the water once. You’ll have to take it in turns when it comes to the fighting chair – your captain will draw straws to see who should go first! The vessel is also decked out with top-quality navigational and safety gear, so you’ll head to the hotspots in plenty of comfort and security.
No matter your skill level or how long you choose to spend on the water, you’ll have the chance to battle big game fish. Once you leave the harbor, it only takes around 10 minutes or so before Mahi Mahi, Marlin, Tuna, and other hard fighters start to appear. Shorter trips are great options for newbies, whereas longer trips allow you to head up to 40 miles offshore. This means you’ll be facing off against gigantic fish!
Your captain will provide fishing gear, your fishing license, and live, dead, or artificial bait. Keeping your catch depends on how many fish you hook, but generally, you’ll be able to keep around 50 pounds of meat. Come cast off with Five Star Sportfishing Hawaii for an unforgettable adventure

Awesome Fishing
Captain and Crew from preparing for the trip all the way to end. Captain was true to his statement of what we can and might not catch. Though I haven't tried other Charter vessels and crew. The RUCKUS will be my first choice to book with. Reason for this is the first impressions and vibes they presented. Their assistance through out the trip to my brother in law and I was extremely awesome. Keep up the great work. Thank you Captain and Crew for the awesome and excellent fishing. 3/4 Day Trip (11am Start)
These guys work hard for you!
Right from the beginning of the trip, Gabe and Tino were on top of things from explaining what we could expect to showing us how to use the fishing reels. Let me say that we are 10+ years experienced Salmon trolling fisherman on the Great Lakes and this was a completely different experience. What we do know, is sometimes it takes time to locate fish and actively feeding fish on top of it. Gabe and Tino were relentless in making that happen by scouting the area with binoculars for certain birds feeding on bait fish and constantly changing up lures to entice a bite. After a bit of time the first fish struck and we had a 150 pound Marlin on but came off after a minute or so. Over the next hour and a half we were able to land three Mahi Mahi averaging 25 pounds. The family had a great time reeling in fish and Gabe and Tino were awesome to talk with. We instantly felt like long time friends with these two guys. If you have any reservations about booking with these guys, don't. Just book it. I would recommend the 6 hour trip that we booked to allow the amount of time it takes to locate these fish. It's a big ocean!

Great Boat & Crew
My wife and I signed up for an 8-hour private charter with Captain Ruben and deckhand Tino (I thought Tino was Tina at first, but it turned into a great laugh – Ruby and Tina, the dynamic duo!). The morning started off rough – rain, waves, and my stomach trying to abandon ship. We ran into a few Mahi schools, but those little guys were picky eaters. Ruby worked hard to switch things up, but no luck... until we hit the west side. Suddenly, the fish were biting! We both landed a Blue Marlin and Mahi Mahi, which made our whole trip! Bonus: We even saw some whales. Ruby (Ruben) and Tina (Tino) were awesome, working tirelessly to make it a great trip. The boat was solid, the crew was amazing, and we both caught our dream fish. Highly recommend!

Best Deep Sea excursion EVER!! Don’t miss this!!! Pass on the others because this crew is amazing.
We had such an amazing trip. Our 10 yr old caught his 2 dream fish- the blue marlin and the mahi mahi. My 3 year old daughter even for a chance to “catch” a fish. They set her up for the experience and put a little fish on the line just to allow her to reel it in. Captain Rubin was amazing at paying attention to the birds to get you to the best fish. He asks questions to find out what you are wanting to catch. He’s timely, friendly and attentive. Tino was so helpful with everything and got us set up, educated us on everything and answered any questions we had. He was fantastic with the kids and really made the experience so good for all of us. The space is comfortable. There is a space up top to sit and allow the wind to hit your face, covered area with seating, a restroom and a fridge to keep your food, ice chest for drinks and room to be out near the action to watch whomever is sitting in the chair to reel in the fish. We caught a huge marlin and mahi mahi. They cleaned the fish and sent us with more than enough for our family to eat.

Big Mahi
My daughter and I had a fantastic trip on the Ruckus. The captain asked us what we wanted to target and that’s what he focused on all day. The boat was super clean and organized. I was pleasantly surprised how much they did to ensure we got our Mahi and then tried for Marlin. We ended up with a Wahoo which was a great bonus. I’ve been on other boats that just troll out for three hours and then back for three hours. This wasn’t like that. They drove the boat with a focus on our target fish. The crew was super nice and fun to be around.

We had such an amazing trip. Our 10 yr old caught his 2 dream fish- the blue marlin and the mahi mahi. My 3 year old daughter even for a chance to “catch” a fish.
