Planning a family adventure? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Also, remember to bring snacks so that nobody gets cranky on an empty belly!
Capt. Derek runs a 22’ Excel bay boat with room for 4 passengers. It comes with all the essentials. Capt. Derek will supply rods and reels for you, as well as lures.
You will need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
You can’t go wrong when you bring sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray). Drinks will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just be sure to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. Lunch is provided, just reach out to learn more, especially if you have any dietary needs.

4 Hour Trip – Float on June 16, 2025
My father in-law, nephew, and son took this trip and we really enjoyed it. We are big fisherman in Texas so it was great fishing new waters and for new fish. Derick showed us all around the lake and explained everything to us well. When we arrived he had a cooler of drinks iced down for us and was just a really outgoing person. I think I enjoyed just having conversations with him rather than fishing. If we return I will definitely be booking again and I highly recommend to use this guide.

50th Birthday Celebration
4 Hour Trip – Float on June 1, 2025
I booked this trip as an apart of my husband's 50th birthday weekend. He went with my 3 sons aging from 15-26. They all were laughing and telling stories of what a great time they had during the fishing trip. They had nothing but great things to say about Derrek and the experience as a whole. 4 Hour Trip – Float on March 25, 2025
My wife & I had an incredible fishing charter with Captain Derek. He was prompt with communication prior to the trip and was ready to hit the water right on time. He gave us tips for catching trout throughout the trip, and helped us out as needed. We had a successful trip, with both my wife & I catching multiple fish each. My wife even reeled in a 22 inch rainbow trout, a catch of a lifetime. I highly recommend Derek for a fishing charter, and for all skill levels and experience.

French Broad River float
4 Hour Trip – Float on July 24, 2024
We had a very enjoyable morning fishing the French Broad River. Derek was very helpful and willing to teach. He had our group trying a variety of lures. My son-in-law had never fished - he caught 2 smallmouth bass. My 12-yr old grandson had never used an open spinning reel and Derek willingly helped him; he caught a 19-inch Drum. My son had never used topwater bass lures before and with one he had a large bass on the line until it jumped 3 times and shook the lure loose. I caught my first walleye (17.5 inches) and my first Drum (23 inches). I had two other walleye hooked but they got away at the side of the boat. We appreciated Derek’s helpful, friendly attitude and we had a lot of fun. I would totally book Derek again.

Trout Fishing the Clinch River
6 Hour Trip – Float on May 16, 2025
Had a great day fishing for trout on the Clinch River with my three boys. Captain Gavin was very accommodating. He did a great job keeping us all fishing helping to change out lures and quickly get us unsnagged. Boat was very clean and easy to for all of us to fish without feeling like we were on top of each other. Captain Gavin was very personable with my boys talking about all things hunting and fishing.
