The backwaters of the North Keys truly are a stunning place, not just because of the nature but for the potential catches as well. Your captain and guide for the day is Andrew Atwill. He was born and raised on the Keys and knows the flats and reef like the back of his hand.
He’ll take you out on his 24ft pathfinder, the best boat for this environment. It was originally built in 2014 and brand new 2023 Yamaha 300 four stroke . It’s got some pace to it too. It can go up to 60 knots so you can dash over to Andrews’s favorite fishing grounds in no time at all. It features a raised fishing platform on the bow giving you plenty of space from where you can spy your targets.
There are a great variety of saltwater fish that call the flats and reef of the Keys home. Jack Crevalle, Redfish, Tarpon, Sheepshead, and Mangrove Snapper are all common catches on Andrews’s trips. Trolling, bottom fishing, and even spearfishing are the approaches Andrew takes. Unsure of anything? Don’t be afraid to ask!
He will provide you with good quality Penn fishing tackle on his trips from which you’ll attach the live bait that he will provide for you. With all the great game catches you can pull in, it would be a great shame if you don’t know how to clean and fillet them, so he’ll sort that for you. Your Florida fishing license is also included in the price for these trips so there’s no need to have a concern about that.
He has some water on board so take something sweeter if you wish as well as some snacks if you book a longer trip. Although a lot of the terrain is shaded here it’s still best to come prepared for the sun and hot weather. For a great day of unique flat fishing, you need not look further than Local Grown Charters!

Fun Trip
Great Captain for Father’s Day
Captain was amazing, ready with bait in-hand when needed, patient, and made us feel extremely comfortable fishing. Gave us tips but also without pressure or fear of screwing up. Two-hour Father’s Day trip with husband, father and father-in-law was a success! We caught two keepers (trout) and many more releases including a blacktip! Having a local as your guide/captain is the best thing you can do to guarantee a great time because they come with experience in these water. We came with an open mind to enjoy ourselves whether we catch or not -expectations were exceeded! Would definitely return, next time we will do 4 hours. Thank you, Captain Andrew!

4 Hour Trip
Knowledgeable, fun, and great with the kids!
Captain Andrew hosted our family of four (two boys ages 13 and 4) for a four hour trip. Our teen is a die-hard fisherman and Andrew did a phenomenal job of educating him on proper techniques while entertaining our little guy; all while keeping lines in the water to ensure we caught fish through the morning. We would absolutely recommend using Captain Andrew for whatever type of fishing excursion you’re looking for. We’ll definitely book with him again when we come back to the keys. Thanks again Andrew!

6 Hour Trip – Offshore
Great Family Fishing Day!
We had an awesome experience with Captain Andrew (Drew) and First mate Rob from Local Grown Charters. We fished as a family of 4 with two boys (ages 12 & 14). Drew was extremely accommodating and was very flexible to ensure our trip was a success. We started out as an offshore booking and ended our charter with reef fishing which was wonderful. We were able to keep several snappers for dinner and Captain Drew was very helpful cleaning the fish and prepping them for us to take with us. We will definitely contact Drew next time we are in the area. Thanks Drew & Rob! We appreciate all you both did to make our day fun & full of fish!

Fun Trip
Knowledgeable, family friendly, professional- Highly recommend
What a great experience for my whole family. A beautiful ride from his marina through mangroves to the open water where we did our fishing. Andrew and crew made sure everyone on board caught multiple fish, he had much knowledge of everything we caught, it was clear he is passionate about his craft. As a mom I am always concerned about safety-he made sure we were safe and informed as we changed speeds throughout the journey- Was an exciting day catching snapper chasing barracuda and catching and releasing multiple other fish species. A great 2 hour family experience, highly recommend for families, but very clear that experienced and more avid angler would be well suited to a trip with Andrew and crew. Thanks for a perfect way to end our time in the keys- we will be back.

I can’t recommend Andrew’s fishing charter highly enough! From the moment we booked, communication was seamless, and Andrew’s professionalism made the entire experience effortless. Even during the chaos of Hurricane Milton, Andrew went above and beyond to ensure we could still get some fishing time in. His deep knowledge of the waters, from the Everglades backcountry to everything in between, was impressive. Despite the wild weather, we always felt safe, confident, and secure with Andrew’s expertise and friendly demeanor. It truly felt like we were in the best hands.
