Great Marsh Outfitters is a fly and light tackle guide service targeting primarily Striped Bass, mainly in Ipswich Bay and Plum Island Sound.
Explore marsh channels tossing flies at eager schoolies, sight fish the flats, or run out to the bay to fish big flies, live bunker, and big topwater plugs for pelagic Stripers up to 50 inches. We specialize in night trips tossing live eels for trophy bass.
Trips usually depart early morning though start times are flexible. At this time, we will have the Great Marsh, Plum Island Sound, and Ipswich Bay largely or entirely to ourselves. We can usually find feeding fish within minutes of getting on the boat. Return around 10 am, when the bite slows down, and the weekend crowds are just finishing their coffee.
There are unique and action-packed fishing opportunities year round.
Things heat up in May and into June with slot-sized fish feeding on Herring in the sound and rivers. July brings abundance to Ipswich Bay, with the arrival of the bunker schools, and the cow-sized Stripers, schoolie Bluefin, and even whales that come right up to the beachfront to feed. This is world class Striper fishing! If you're lucky, you might even get a shot at hooking a Bluefin Tuna.
August brings the sand eels in thick on the sandbars and beach fronts of Ipswich Bay. Come September on through the end of October, you'll be chasing Bass as they move south in their fall run.

Fished the morning tide, and although the fish weren’t very cooperative due to the heat wave pushing them into a more nocturnal feeding pattern, it was still a great trip. The boat is perfectly set up for fishing New England waters, and both the fly and spinning gear were top-notch. We explored plenty of beautiful spots loaded with bait and had a few shots and follows, but that’s fishing. I enjoyed the experience enough that I’ve already booked another trip for next year. Highly recommended!
My husband went out with Captain Erik yesterday and came home absolutely thrilled - he said it was the best charter he’s ever been on. Erik was professional from start to finish and incredibly knowledgeable about the fish and local waters. They caught a ton of fish, including some big striped bass! If you’re looking for a charter, book with Erik! Highly recommend!
If you are looking for an outstanding day on the water catching Striped Bass Erik is your captain. From the initial communication to the end of the trip Erik was great to work with. Being somewhat new to fishing myself (whilst my 15yr old son was advanced already) Erik took time to explain where we went fishing, what bait to best use for the day, where Stripers might be found and why etc etc. My son had an awesome experience and we managed to catch a total of 10 (!!!) stripers, out of which we could keep 1 (thanks for as well showing us how to properly fillet it). Overall I can highly recommend Erik to everyone (advanced or novice with kids) who wants to spend a great day on the sea!
My boyfriend and I booked this trip for our late anniversary get away, to get the experience with striper fishing. Absolutely hands down an amazing day and experience with Captain Erik he definitely knows his way around the bay and makes an enjoyable boating experience while catching some monster strippers and mackerels for the live bait. We would definitely recommend booking with Captain Erik for any fishing skill level whether it be beginner or experienced fisherman because whether or not if you know what your are doing he will still take the to show it how it is done.
