Salty Peters Guide Service operates out of Port O’Connor and offers fishing trips within the area year round. Captain Jon has been fishing the Port O’Connor/Seadrift area (West Matagorda, Espiritu Santo, and San Antonio Bays) for over 20 years. During the trip, Capt. Jon educates anglers as to why the fish are in that location and where they are headed. You will be treated to knowledge of the history of the area. You can either wade or fish from the boat.
You will leave from a private dock.
Your trip will take place on a 26' Mowdy catamaran that accommodates up to 4 guest with a T-top which is perfect for shade in the Texas summers. This bay boat is perfect for exploring the back bays and/or shorelines.
During your trip, you will use either artificial lures or bait (either live or dead - bait is not included within daily rate), depending upon your comfort level, your request, and what the fish are biting on You will target Redfish, Trout, Sheepshead, and Black Drum. Trips are either five or eight hours.
Capt. Jon has all the rods and reel. If you want to wade and need the gear (except for boots) he has that too. All you will need to bring is your fishing license, snacks and drinks of your choice for the day.
Trips include fish cleaning.
It’s easy to get ready for a trip with Salty Peters Guide Service. Secure your place on the boat on time and join the action.

First time with John Peters. John was quite a fisherman and an instructor. He offered for us to fish how we wanted. One buddy was not well and fished from the boat. The other two of us fished with paddle tails. He fitted us with wading belts and instructed us in the proper use of it. Safety was first, a storm was coming and we started for the docks well before it got to us, but we did stop closer to the dock to fish. Got some keeper trout and a few rat reds. Overall, worth the money and an enjoyable time

Captain Jon was a great host. We were hoping to catch some good sized fish but unfortunately it wasn’t a good fishing day. He did everything he could though to try and find some good fishing spots. We hope to come back in the fall and try our luck again!

I’ve been on several different charters, from South Padre, Port A, to Orange Beach, Captain Jon and Salty Peter’s was my best experience I’ve had. It was as windy day, but Captain Jon put us in the right places to still catch fish. Great patience and a great teacher, Captain Jon’s knowledge and experience in the area pays off. We will be back!
