Bonehead Charters would like to welcome you to Hatteras Island. Join Captain James Holmes aboard 'Bonehead,' a comfortable and spacious boat that offers you a smooth ride and is ready to take you fishing or just cruising the bountiful waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound.
The captain and his first mate will ensure you have everything you need to have a great time and put you on some serious fun. Give them a shout in Hatteras, North Carolina, they are ready to take you out!
Bonehead is a 38' Cecil Robbins Chesapeake deadrise saltwater fishing boat that can accommodate up to 6 anglers. It runs on a 420 HP Cummins engine that can reach a maximum cruising speed of 18 knots and uses navigation technology to allow for safe and quick movement on the water. You can also use the onboard fighting chair and you'll have the help of a first mate who'll gladly work to make your experience even better.
The species you can target are, Mackerel, Bluefish, Flounder, Redfish, as well as Cobia. There's a wide choice of ways you can reel them in. You can, troll, jig, and drift fish using light and heavy tackle. Kids are welcome to join the trip and you're free to keep all your catch if you wish to.
Capt. James will take care of all the rods, reels, live bait, and lures, as well as fishing licenses, so the only things you should have before you depart are your favorite snacks and drinks. Also, keep in mind that the first mate works for tips.

Top notch experience, crew and captain. They easily make it feel like your "home away from home", as if you've always been on a boat. Sharing info about fish, the area and more. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the trip into the sound and found both Jimmy & Jason to be a great pair. Caught several fish (bluefish and Spanish mackerel) and loved seeing the expanded area of the Pamlico Sound. Beautiful. Although I don't usually leave a review, I felt compelled to add mine to the many other high-rated reviews. Having spent a few trips to Risky Business Seafood, right there at the Hatteras dock - I noticed the boat and researched how to book from there. Lots of choices online but couldn't ignore the positive reviews for Bonehead. While on the trip, we appreciated the time captain and mate took to help us as beginners. We were definitely eager to learn a bit about the fish, sound, area, island, boats...you name it. No question went without a genuine answer. This kind of personalization can be hard to find not just with charters but anywhere. Despite being a tourist, I value feeling a part of it all. Whether you are a born & bred local, short-timer, transplant or newcomer to Hatteras - there's a reason we all wind up sharing our summers together. And, it's no wonder many wind up staying for good. Hatteras is a special place and I'm glad we had a moment to be present with the folks that call it their home. We'll be back for more trips soon! Don't hesitate to book with these guys...they can customize a trip with all experience-levels, location, expectations, etc. Very communicative online and best of all - Jimmy was able to help us prep the catch to take home and start eating! first charter and i would definitely book another! The Boneheads were great! The Captain was keeping us safe while finding fish! While the first mate was keeping us informed while helping us land them. Also the mate was telling s history about Hatteras in the surrounding areas about how the island works, how it grows and shrinks with the wind and seas. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
Surf and sound fishing had been slow, Captain Jimmy took us out and caught plenty of blue and a few Spanish mackerel. First mate was spot on and worked his butt off , end of the day the captain even cleaned our fish.
This is our third year on the boat and it was fantastic! The captain and mate were very nice and we caught a lot of fish. Would recommend.
