Papagayo Fishing – ‘Bahamas Boat’
Papagayo Fishing is located in the community of Playas del Coco, 30 minutes away from the Liberia International Airport. This is a small community of commercial fishermen in the Gulf of Papagayo and it is close to the most popular hotels on the Northwest of Costa Rica Guanacaste.
Captain Jose Mendez has been fishing for more than 18 years and offers full day and half day trips every day of the week. His two sons also run the boats and are captains, and so is his older brother. They all take turns in being ‘the captain’ – you can’t go wrong fishing with Mendez family.
Captain Jose owns the “Bahamas,” a 25’ Mako center console that can carry up to 5 anglers. She comes with a 150 HP Yamaha 4-stroke engine, top-notch marine electronics and safety gear, and an enclosed toilet in the console of the boat.
The vessel also features everything you can think of when it comes to fishing gadgets – from outriggers and downriggers to a fighting chair, a live bait tank, Tuna tubes, and two ice-chest (one for the catch and one for the customers to use).
The vessel is perfect for inshore fishing for species such as Roosterfish, but it can also take you up to 10 miles offshore in pursuit of Mahi Mahi and Sailfish. The other species you can target are Tuna, Snapper, Kingfish, Amberjack, Grouper, and many others.
All the needed gear will be provided, including top professional tackle by Shimano, lures, and live bait (when available). Snacks and drinks are also provided free of charge on all trips, in addition to lunch being available on full-day trips. Licenses and catch cleaning are also complementary. The captain can even arrange a pickup service by boat at your hotel.
