Chasin’ Tail Sportfishing Charters is a full-time sportfishing operation out of Monmouth Cove Marina in Middletown Township, New Jersey. Fishing the Raritan Bay and surrounding waters, Captain Joseph Degruttola and his crew are blessed with some of the best Striped Bass fishing around. Also, you can experience some world-class Tuna action when fishing offshore in the bluewater. Captain Joseph provides all the top-of-the-line gear to get the job for that day on the water. Your trip starts on a 30’ Pursuit 3070 offshore sport fishing boat. It can fit up to 5 guests on inshore trips and 4 guests when fishing offshore. The boat runs on twin 250 HP Yamaha engines, uses comprehensive navigation technology, and has got a portable toilet and a bed. You’ll have plenty of to store your fish, food, and drinks. As for the fishing gear, the boat has got a livewell and outriggers. A first mate will also join your trip and he’d be grateful for a customary 20% tip for his diligent work.
You’ll have the chance to try out various fishing techniques using light and heavy tackle. The choice of species you can target is also big, with Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Black Seabass, Tautog, and Flounder being some of them. Feel free to keep the fish you catch.
Captain Joseph will do his best to make your trip fun and productive and invites your whole family to join him aboard. He’ll provide all the gear, licenses, and catch cleaning, so just bring some snacks and drinks before you leave.

Weather was not good the entire week prior to the trip but was beautiful the day of the trip. The crew worked hard to find fish and try different ways to catch them. My daughter brought in a 20lb striped bass thanks to the hard work of the crew and made her birthday wish come true. Later in the trip she landed a 7 pound bluefish. After a slower morning in the bay, the guys made the choice to head out in search for trophy bass and did not disappoint. Easily the biggest striped bass I have ever caught. Overall great guys to hang on the water with and very knowledgeable. Would recommend to anyone to book!

4 Hour Trip – Striped Bass (AM) on October 14, 2023 • 2 adultsWent on a fall striper run in some iffy weather. Fished in the ocean side off of Sea Bright and Sandy Hook. Big bass around. Caught and released a 44-inch striper that weighed about 30 pounds. Wow! Caught two more big ones. We had a great time with Captain Joe and Billy, his mate. My son will never forget reeling in his first truly big fish. Fall striper fishing is great in NJ. Recommend it to everyone.

Great trip!! Captain worked extremely hard to put us on the fish. We caught a bunch even when seeing other boats not catching. Captain used all resources they had to make locate and identify the fish. First mate was great! Friendly knowledgeable. 10 out of 10!! Can’t wait to go again and hammer those striped bass!

Chartered Chasin' Tails and they did not diappoint. Captain Joe was very personable and patient with my kids. We were on fish all day and i would recommend him and his boat for anyone looking for a charter down the Jersey Shore.

Captain Joe DeGruttola is a US Coast Guard Licensed Captain with an OUPV Near Coastal to 100 Miles offshore certificate. He has been fishing and running boats from the Raritan Bay for the past 15 years and has fished for all species of fish from inshore to offshore. Joe has also participated in many tournaments that include Monster Shark, Mako Mania, White Marlin Open, Mid-Atlantic 500, Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shootout, and many other striped bass tournaments on the ASA Striper Trail. Captain Joe is affiliated with companies which include Noreast'R, TN Tackle, Seaguar, Avet Reels, and Okuma
