Captain David of Backwater Fishing Adventures warmly welcomes you to come have a fishing adventure with him. Some of the best shallow water fishing in the world can be found here, and Capt. David knows all the best places to take you to. He specializes in light tackle and fly fishing in the scenic Jacksonville Beach area of Florida, fishing for Redfish, Spotted Seatrout, Flounder and Black Drum.
His 19' Bay Craft boat is powered by 115 HP Yamaha engine. Coupled with Capt. David's knowledge of the area and his fishfinder, you'll be on the fish in no time. You will fish shallow flats, creeks, and the Intercoastal waterway for a variety of species. With a large casting area at the front of the boat, it is a perfect vessel for fly fishing. The equipment needed for fly fishing is included, but experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own.
For ease of fishing, there is a poling platform and trolling motor on board. In 2002, Capt. David won the Mercury Celebrity Classic grand champion guide. Yet he still believes that teaching children is his greatest accomplishment. You will leave these trips with lasting memories and new skills at fishing, as well as plenty of fish for dinner! Capt. David will happily fillet all fish you wish to take home.
All level of anglers are welcome aboard, especially children. Capt. David understands the importance of teaching the next generation, and is happy to show them the ropes and inspire in them a love of fishing. The shorter trip is recommended for them, whereas more experienced anglers are better suited for the longer trip.
Due to the nature of river fishing, customers should contact the captain prior to the trip to finalise pickup location. The capacity of the boat is 3 adults, or 3 adults and 1 child. It is recommended you bring along sunscreen and polarized sunglasses. Fishing license is included too, so all that left to do is book now and meet Capt. David soon!

We caught a variety of fish and we were also provided with drinks and plenty of bait. We learned a lot just from 4 hours on his boat. He also showed us an easy and great way to fillet the fish. I definitely recommend this trip to anyone.

Captain David was a patient advisor for technique adjustment, which is particularly important for the differences in bite behavior between the target species. Not a bad day considering it was just a few days after hurricane Ian blew through!

it was an awesome time. caught the biggest fish ever. Captain David was very knowledgeable and helped us to undertand the different ways o fishing in shallow water compared to deep water.
The fish were definitely biting but David knew exatly where to find them. We caught 30+ fish had a great time. Well worth the money IMO
great trip all around
The captain communicated with me prior to the trip, we met at the appointed time, he was extremely courteous and professional, the boat was clean and all the equipment operational. While we got a lot of fish, they were below FL allowed measurements for keeping and they were promptly unhooked and released. He moved to different locations trying to find more rewarding fish to catch. There are no photos as we did not get any large size fish. We caught 2 flounder and one sea bass of allowable size which were impeccably filleted by the captain at our return to port and were our dinner that night.

David's passion for fishing was ignited when he learned to fish along the Mississippi Gulf Coast as a young boy, fishing with his father in a small wooden row boat. He has come a long way since that rowboat, and has been guiding in northeast Florida for over 20 years now. He writes for the Coastal Angler Magazine and has been featured in Florida Sportsman, the Florida Times-Union, and Trailer Boats Magazine, so you know you are in safe hands with him!
