Captain Jim tired his hardest to get us on fish to day with bad weather and wind sneaking in on us. He never gave up and kept us entertained with his amazing personality. He came through for my son’s birthday and on the very last line of bait in the rain got him his first red drum! He is a very patient and knowledgeable individual. 10/10 would book him again!

"A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office." Captain Jim went above and beyond trying to get us a catch, visiting multiple locations on the Intercoastal. Despite our best efforts, we were unsuccessful in snagging any flounder or drum but did catch a lizard fish and a bluefin. He was an excellent teacher, as one of our group had never cast a reel before, and was very knowledgeable about the area. We had such a great time and would absolutely book another trip with Captain Jim if we make it back to Surf City. 1,000 percent would recommend!

Captain Jim is awesome! My father, son and I booked a 4-hour fishing excursion with Jim and had an absolutely great time searching for drum and other fish in the ICW! This was our first time fishing inshore in the area and Jim put us on some fish! Jim is super knowledgeable about the area, what species of fish we should expect to catch, and what bait(s) we should be using! His communication leading up to the trip was prompt and thorough — he even gave us a call the day before to talk about all the details. Jim is a safety first captain, and made sure we were well taken care of and had everything we needed during the trip. His boat is awesome, super clean and has plenty of room. Meeting at his destination is super close to anyone staying in the Topsail / Surf City area. Just park and walk down to the boat! It was in the water and waiting for us when we arrived - full of fresh caught bait fish. Jim was great with kids - he made sure my son (8 yrs) was taken care of first, and that he’d be sure to catch fish (he even out-fished the adults!). Jim was patient and told great stories! My son is still telling everyone about the “Topsail Island Barracuda” he caught (Jim’s clever name for a dogfish ;). We learned a lot about the area and the fish we’d be catching along the way. We had a great fishing trip with Captain Jim and are looking forward to going back out with him again in the future!

Our fishing trip with Captain Jim was an absolute delight . We learned multiple fishing techniques , and Captain Jim took us to all of his favorite spots to maximize our luck ! And when we had an issue , Captain Jim had extra poles and kept our heads in the game . We caught a few good ones, but more importantly we had a good quality morning together as a family !

Jim worked hard to put us on fish. We never located any large schools but that’s fishing. We did connect on several fish, from a small ray, sea bass, red drum, flounder and a few other species I don’t recall. Very friendly and accommodating! Will try him out again in the future!!

Had a great time with Capt.Jim today. He is very knowledgeable about the local fishing spots and really explains what to look for when fishing. Although we came up empty we did get some great nibbles on some sharks in one spot. Maybe next we can go for the ones that got away today. Thanks Capt Jim.

If you have any doubts you shouldn’t! Captain Jim was super nice and informative throughout the whole trip. Booking was easy and he answered all the questions I had. Captain Jim took us straight to the fish and we had an absolute blast! Highly recommend you book at trip with him. We will definitely be back!

My family and I had a great time with Capt.Jim Hardy. With the bad wind and bad time of year to fish we managed to catch some fish and have an awesome time doing it. I would highly recommend Capt Jim Blue Heron guide service and we will surely look him up next time.
