Over 50 years fishing these waters and licensed over 40 years.
These waters are known for Flounder, Redfish, Mangrove Snapper ,Speckled Trout ,Gaff top, Blacktip Shark , and more – with any luck, it won't be long before "Fish on!" On these trips, you can expect to use light tackle.
If you're traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. Snacks are never a bad idea to stay fueled throughout your trip!
You'll step aboard a 22' Alumacraft bay boat that holds up to 3 passengers. It comes with all the essentials. Capt. Mark will supply rods and reels for you.
Before coming aboard, you'll need to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.
Don't leave home without sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), bottled water, and a hat. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Outstanding Experience with Capt. Mark Westmoreland!
I wanted to do something special with my son during his spring break, but my work schedule made it difficult earlier in the week. Late Thursday evening, I reached out to Capt. Mark Westmoreland of Capt. West Charters, and he went above and beyond to accommodate us for a 7 AM trip the very next morning. Neither my son nor I have much fishing experience, but Capt. Westmoreland was an incredible guide and teacher. He patiently walked us through everything we needed to know, from casting techniques to understanding fish behavior. His knowledge of the area was impressive—he took us to all the right spots, and we caught a ton of fish! To top it off, he filleted and iced our fish for us, making the experience completely hassle-free. We had an amazing time on the water and will definitely book with Capt. Westmoreland again. If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, friendly, and professional charter captain, I highly recommend Capt. West Charters!

Ca West Chaters.
Ca was amazing. Very nice, very knowledgeable and worked his tail off trying to get us on fish. Only managed 1 limit of Reds plus a mangro snapper bit landed lots of fish thatbwere just a little too.small. stayed out a little longer than expected trying to get.more.fish out of the goodness of his heart. 100% recommend and will definitely be my gont9 guide when I visit Surfside.

Captain Mark did a great job taking care of me and my two sons. We had a lot of fun. Early morning, but we caught some good fish for frying. Fishing in the late morning was a blast landing several big sharks. Thanks Captain Mark. We will see you again soon.

Great adventure!

A Good Day Fishing
Captain Mark grew up in this area, so he knows it like the back of his hand. Mot of our fishing occurred at the south end of the Brazos River near the Gulf. We caught speckled trout and blue catfish at the exact same spot which was a 1st for me. Mark's a very personable and knowledgeable guy - just the kind of guy you want to spend the day fishing with.
