Thumper Bluewater Expeditions
Thumper Bluewater Expeditions operates out of Golfito and offers extended offshore overnight trips to Costa Rica’s Seamounts and Hannibal Bank, Panama. They specialize in fishing for Billfish with light tackle, either on the fly or by using bait and switch with spinning or stand up conventional tackle.
Fishing aboard a luxurious 60 foot Mikelson walkaround Sportfish, they can cater for up to six anglers in air conditioned comfort. The boat features three double state rooms, private bathrooms with hot water showers, and a full kitchen and bar. With a huge livewell and tuna tubes as well as all the IGFA tackle you need to target Marlin on the fly and with conventional tackle, you will be in the best possible hands as you target the king of the Billfish.
The border area between Costa Rica and Panama is one of only two places in the world where three tectonic plates meet, creating a ridge rising 2500 ft from the bottom of the sea to just 500 ft below the surface. This creates surges of nutrients that rise from the bottom of the sea and attract Bonito, Yellowfins and, hot on their tails, the Marlin. Thumper Bluewater Expeditions target this species specifically, often catching Sailfish, Tuna and Mahi Mahi as a by-catch (and, in the case of the latter two, a tasty dinner). At night they use underwater lights to fish for Swordfish, Thresher Sharks and Squid. The beauty of multiday trips in the area is that when they find Marlins they can stick to them and start a new day in a proven location.
With an expert, English speaking crew that includes Capt. Abraham Conception, world champion of Marlin on the fly and Capt. Harry Glah, who has competed in two IGFA World Championship events, you will be fishing with the very best in the sport. Their record of 17 Marlins (two Blacks and 15 Blues) in one day speaks for itself. Come to the end of the world and fish with the Pros!
