Castaway Charters

Hemlock Street
Ucluelet BC, Canada

Castaway Charters are offering you the chance to experience the best Salmon and Halibut fishing in Ucluelet. They provide fully guided fishing charters from the West Coast of Vancouver Island, targeting the most delicious and challenging game fish in the north of the Pacific.

Charters take place aboard ‘Castaway’, a 32 ft luxury sport fishing Bayliner boat. This vessel is the largest of its kind in the area, and in an ocean like this one, bigger is most certainly better. The boat is fitted with a full size washroom with an flushable fresh water toilet for personal comfort throughout the trip, and the vessel comfortably holds up to five people. All the latest gear and technology is on board, including a Furuno radar and Lowrance fishfinder and GPS. This allows the team to find schools of Salmon and Halibut and stay on them as you reel them in!

As far as fishing gear is concerned, Castaway Charters use 10 ft 6 in rods and Shimano reels to put you on your catch. They also use Scotty’s High Performance electric downriggers that allow you to fish any depth with a tight line and speedy retrieval. You will use this top of the range gear to catch your limit of Salmon, Halibut, Ling Cod and Rockfish while enjoying the stunning scenery of Vancouver Island’s coastline. While you’re on your fishing adventure it is highly possible that you might be chugging along beside Whales, Sea Lions, Bears, Eagles and the other marine wildlife that calls this diverse ecosystem home.

Bring a cooler with you on the trip and you’ll be able to take it home filled with the freshest of fillets. It is possible to get the fish vacuum packed nearby, after having it bled and flushed in Castaway’s salt water bath and placed on commercial grade salt ice. The respect given to your catch will mean you go home with the best tasting fish on the coast.

Come to Castaway Charters as a customer and you will leave as a friend. Book now to secure your dates and enjoy the fishing adventure of a lifetime.

About the Captain

Paul Grimston
Ucluelet, British Columbia, Canada
Member since January 2016
Paul Grimston has been fishing the waters off the West Coast of Vancouver Island for 20 years, 14 of which have been based in Ucluelet aboard Castaway. In 2009 Paul caught a 141 lb Halibut that was the largest on the dock in 4 years. In 2013 one of his customers, aged only 14, also reeled in 140lb plus Halibut. We regularly catch Tyee Class Chinooks (King Salmon) over 30lbs. Several Chinooks in the 20lb class are normal in the peak season July and August.
