Rod Bending Charters sure do live up to their name - if thrilling rod-bending action is what you are after, then Captain Jason and his crew are the ones to guide you to where the big fish like to play in Galveston, Texas. They have a lot of knowledge about migratory patterns of species in this area, and offer everything from inshore to offshore fishing, 365 days of the year. They are fully insured and all captains are USCG licensed, and their goal is for you to catch fish and have a great time doing it!
You will head out on the brand new 30’ centre console Sea Hunt, which offers a smooth, dry and fast ride to the fishing grounds. It is powered by twin 500HP Yamaha engines, and is navigated by GPS, fishfinder, VHF, sonar and radar. The spacious deck allows plenty of room to fish in comfort, and is perfect for larger groups. Its oversized T-top provides plenty of shade and rain protection, and the boat also has an onboard restroom. To increase your chances of landing fish, the boat comes fitted with outriggers and live bait tank, while the first mate will be on hand to assist you throughout the day. The crew use very high quality Shimano and Avet reels, and Ugly Stik Tiger and custom hopper rods.
Rod Bending Charters offer a range of fishing trips, so if you’re looking to save yourself a long boat ride, you can target big fish around Galveston Jetty and Ship Channel. Got your eye set on Sharks? No problem, you can spend the whole day tackling these beasts. For those seeking deep-sea action, you can choose between going close offshore or heading out 50+ miles on the water. Depending on the trip you select, you will target species such as Kingfish, Ling, Mahi Mahi, Snapper, Grouper, Wahoo, Billfish, Tuna, Bonita, Sharks, Jack Crevalle, Amberjack, Cobia, Redfish, Trout, and many more. All trips include rods, reels, tackle, bait, fuel, and cleaning of fish. Fishing licenses are not included.
The Rod Bending Charters crew look forward to seeing you on the water!

We’d never taken a January fishing trip out of Galveston before, so we didn’t know exactly what to expect fish-wise. Jason (not Woods) and Steve gave us a good day of fishing - both for eats and for fun.
The day started slow. Between a stuck anchor and constant repositioning due to current, we only got in 2-3 casts in the first hour and a half. After we finally got a good anchoring spot locked in, we pulled in sheepshead in waves for the next couple hours. We didn’t limit out, but we came close.
We left jetty fishing to go chase some big black drum. We anchored, tossed out four lines with crabs, and took turns reeling in fatties. Lots of fun to catch the big boys, but also lots of hurrying-up-and-waiting for lines to bend. Unfortunately we couldn’t cast off the side at the same time since the current was too strong.
Overall, we checked out two spots over the 7hrs (one on the jetty for sheep, one just off the jetty for drum). We spent quite a bit of time dealing with anchor issues, but I think anchoring was necessary since the waves had a little chop and the boat didn’t have a trolling motor to keep us in place.
Ladies - we booked the 30ft boat mostly because of the bathroom, but you’ll be sorely disappointed if you expect the picture posted on galvestongulffishing . com.
Jason and Steve were super helpful the whole trip, and we were happy to bring home a cooler-full of fish despite a foggy, chilly day.

If you are ever in Galveston and want to to go fishing call Captain Jason Wood with Rod Bending Charters. We caught our limit for black tip sharks in 40 minutes caught Mackerel Sheephead Trout and a StingRay that weighed 150 lbs. This trp was the best we ever had. We will definitely comeback next year. We had a very similar experience with him last year.
