If you're ready to go sport fishing in Quepos, come aboard the Dia Tuanis. Captain Javier will be your guide, which allows you to benefit from more than 19 years of knowledge and experience.
Around here, fishing is popular for Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Black Marlin, Cubera Snapper, Roosterfish, Sailfish, and more with any luck. During the trip, you might be spinning, popping, trolling, jigging, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Fish caught during the trip are yours to take home, so long as they're within the legal limit. The crew can even clean your catch for you. Have a cooler ready in the car!
Your fishing machine for the day is a 28' Shamrock offshore sport fishing with space for 4 passengers. It has outriggers, a fighting chair, and all the essentials, plus a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Javier will provide rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Planning a family adventure? Kids are absolutely welcome! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. Remember to bring a hat, sunglasses, bottled water, and sunblock (non-spray). Drinks are included, free of charge. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but avoid hard liquor and glass bottles. There will be light snacks available on board.
A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates often work for tips, and it's customary to offer them a 10–20% tip. You might need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.

Captain Lorenzo and First Mate Juan gave us an excellent fishing experience. My sons and I caught 4 types of fish including a mahi mahi and yellowfin tuna. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife at sea including seabirds and dolphins set against the beautiful mountain backdrop along the Costa Rican coast. At the end, they took photos of us with the fish and cleaned them for us. We highly recommend this for those looking for a wonderful fishing trip.

Thank you for your trust, it was a pleasure to serve you.
On February 12th 2026 my wife and I went on a fishing trip with Javier Cortez and Fabiola of Waltrip&Cortez Sportfishing. We just booked a half day inshore fishing, just to get the taste and the hang of catching some of the beautiful Costa Rica n fishes, as it was fishing in the topical Pacific for us for the first time. Captain Javier and deckhand Fabiola first got us out many miles South to catch some baitfish which we need for catching the roosters later on. They let us catch many sardines and moonfish for bait and then also the barracuda showed up. Nice to catch some barracuda, but time to go because these were not the fish we're after and the live bait well was already completely filled! From there we went to a serious good fishing spot far beyond all the other boats, really near the shore where the huge waves break. This to getting us on the largest roosters. In this almost "private" fishing spot Javier and Fabiola got us hooked onto some really nice roosters. Because all the fun we had, a detour for spotting a humpback whale and some manta ray's, our booked half day fishing went almost into an full day of ultimate pleasure on this boat. The next day Javier and Fabiola took us out for a full day off-shore fishing to catch mahi mahi, yellowfin and sailfish which were on the bucket list for this day. And yes! They got us on these fish really quick. Within the first hour of fishing, 2 mahi mahi were already caught. Then we went spotting for the dolphins to try to catch my desired yellowfin, which often swim together. With over hundred dolphins in sight, the yellowfins should also be there. And were on it again! After a hour of real rope wrestling with a huge yellowfin, Javier helped me getting the yellowfin on board. And within 20 minutes they turned the hard fighting yellowfin into a delicious onboard carpaccio and a lot of tuna steak in the ice for our coming day's BBQs. After a cooling down of my muscles and a very good lunch with plenty fruits, yellowfin carpaccio and well filled sandwiches, the trip went on to catch the other fish on my bucket list. Sailfish. And here we go again.., 2 beautiful sailfish hooked out of 4 bites within the next hours. Of course catch and release for these bill fish, but, with letting me into the open ocean, 40+ miles out, to perform the both sailfish releases…. What an exciting experience to do it this way! Letting us do the fishing by ourself and only providing the necessary hands and knowledge to lead us to the catches, made it an unforgettable experience with you! Also excellent onboard service with drinks, fruits and fresh meals! Javier and Fabiola, you both made our trips truly unforgettable. You both deserve 6 out of 5 stars! For the reader: if you also want an unforgettable fishing experience? Choose Waltrip&Cortez fishing! All regards from Holland

Thanks friend for trusting us to go fishing with you, it was a pleasure. I hope you come fishing again soon.
My daughter and I recently traveled to Quepos for an offshore fishing trip with Javier. It was a slow day on the water for all, but Captain Javier was determined to hook us a sailfish at any cost! Captain Javier went above and beyond to make our experience educational, informative and fun- and ultimately snagged a sailfish!! My daughter had the opportunity to reel it in and jump in the water to release it! It was a 10/10 experience!!

Hello, hello, it was a pleasure. Sometimes fishing gets a little difficult, but I like to give my best effort and achieve the objectives. Thank you for your trust.

This was a perfect trip. Captain and his assistant were great. I wanted to catch a Rooster fish, but the tide wasn’t right. The captain recommended we move to try catching a Marlin or Sailfish. I ended up catching a Sailfish. Awesome feeling! I recommend these guys to anyone.

It was a pleasure fishing with you all. See you next time to fish for the Rooster!
Went on 3/4 day trip. Captain and 1st mate Adriel were experts in finding the fish. 4/4 on sailfish..The equipment was great (no lines snapping/fraying) that you find on some boats, but the expertise of the crew was the best. Friendly and eager to make it a great day!! Very kind with helpuming my wife on her time catching this size fish. Really great time!! Thank you both for a wonderful day!!

Thank you so much friends, it was a pleasure
