Pura Vida Offshore Charters is owned and operated by Captain Greg Macfarlane, a third generation commercial fishermen who has been fishing the Gulf of Mexico his entire life. Specializing in live bait fishing, he runs offshore charters on the Gulf, and is based near Clearwater Beach, Florida: a short distance from the Gulf, and a quick drive from St. Petersburg and Tampa.

His 32’ Sabalo boat is powered by a 370HP 5.9L Cummins engine, and is equipped with Furuno FCV-585 Fishfinder, GPS, VHF radio, radar, and sonar. It can accommodate up to six anglers, and features 15’ of fishing deck space with comfortable cushioned seating, a completely private toilet, a bed where you can nap on your way in or out to sea, and a large icebox with a plenty of ice that can fit all of your food, drinks, and fish. It comes equipped with downriggers, eleven rod holders, and live bait tank.

Pura Vida Charters offer half day, three-quarter day, and full day trips, and fish for species such as Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, King Mackerel and Tuna, depending on the season and conditions on the day.

Trips include rods, reels and tackle, live bait, fishing licences, and full insurance. Capt. Greg prefers to release any game fish that are not very tasty, such as Shark, however any edible fish can be kept by the client. He is happy to clean and fillet your catch, and highly recommends taking it to a local restaurant after your trip, where it can be prepared for you.

Capt. Greg takes pride in giving all his clients a great experience offshore. Whether you’re a family looking to have a good time on the water, or a group that is trying to fill their freezers, Pura Vida Charters has a trip for you!

I am a third generation Captain, and have been working the Gulf my entire life. Whether it's driving 100 miles offshore to supply the fish house with fresh Grouper and Snapper for local restaurants, to pulling Stone Crab traps off the coast, or taking a family out to catch the biggest fish of their lives - we do it all! Being able to share our adventures out in the Gulf with charter clients is something I really enjoy, and take pride in giving them a great experience.

There are hundreds of fiahing charters to choose from and sometimes it’s hard to know where to book. I can tell you, no need to look further. First this trip is great if it’s all adults or a family. Captain Greg, and his deck hand Brian are great. They are prompt, knowledgeable, and you definitely catch fish. My kids loved it. When you arrive back, they will clean and filet the fish for you, and even recommend a couple of restaurants that will cook up the fish for you and your group.  I guarantee you will have a great time and a reasonably priced rate.

These guys are great. I took my 2 boys ages 11 and 13 out for a 3/4 day fishing trip with my wife as well and we caught 29 fish that we could keep and at least that many that did not meet the size requirement or were out of season. In addition I caught a 30 pound sailfish that is very rare and took about 30 minutes to bring in. What an awesome experience!!! The kids also enjoyed the puffer fish that we caught as well as the octopus and squirrel and lizard fish. They also enjoyed watching the flying fish as well. I highly recommend these guys!!!!
