Spend the day with Henry The King Fisher and find out what the fishing in Tamarindo is all about! With Captain Henry at the helm, you’re in knowledgeable and experienced hands.
Top targets include Snappers, Cero Mackerel, Blackfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Corvina, Mahi Mahi, and more, depending on when you go. You can expect to do some light tackle fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. For the more adventurous among you, there’s spearfishing.
Families making a day of it will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise, you should bring your own. Also, remember to bring snacks so that nobody gets grumpy on an empty stomach!
Your vessel for the day is a 26’ Yamaha center console with space for 7 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Your captain will provide rods and reels.
You might need to purchase a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect. Don’t forget to bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunblock (non-spray). There will be water and beer aboard. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but you should avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Tamarindo Half Day Fishing Excursion
We did a half day trip with Captain Henry and had a fun time. It was my wife and I, and our two kids (ages 14 and 12). We have not done much fishing but Captain Henry took care of everything and he was very good with the kids. The first half was busy - we caught several tuna (skipjack and yellow fin). The second half was a bit slower, but he tried lots of spots and we managed to catch a nice grouper. We also saw green sea turtles and humpback whales. We enjoyed the trip enough that we went out with Captain Henry again in the afternoon for a nice tour of Tamarindo Estuary. He is very knowledgeable about the area. We saw lots of wildlife including several crocodiles and a group of howler monkeys.

Henry is awesome
Henry and his co-captain Amos were fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Anyone who knows fishing knows that some days are hot and some days aren’t. Our experience with Henry would have been 5 stars even if we hadn’t caught plenty of fish. He and Amos were very attentive and informative and always made sure that we were having a good time. The fishing (by the way) turned out to be fantastic as well. A dorado, a skipjack and then we got into the tuna and were catching one every pass. We will absolutely go with Henry and Amos again in the future.

Half Day Fishing Excursion
An Unforgettable Day!
Henry is the real deal. We got out on the water and near immediately we were on the fish and the action didn’t stop all morning. We caught our share of tuna and switched to bottom fishing and caught many grouper and other species as well. My arms were tired from the rod in hand fishing! Just when we thought we had enough, Henry insisted we go snorkeling at a nearby secluded reef while he cleaned and prepared our catch. The boat was supplied with fresh fruit, local beer and drinks and most importantly those good pura vida vibes. We left the boat on foot and took our fish to the highly rated restaurant next door (Pangas) where they prepared our catch into an amazing lunch filled with tuna tar tar, blackened tuna and fried whole grouper. Thank you Henry for an unforgettable day. Don’t mess with Henry!

Half Day Fishing Excursion
Amazing Fishing trip
Captain Henry does an amazing job. His boat is smaller and not modern but he makes up for it with his fishing knowledge. While the larger fancier boats were only catching a few fish, we caught many. I lost count. We had amazing yellow fin tuna for dinner. After the 1/2 day fishing trip, we picked up the other 3 family members and went on a tour of the sanctuary. It was unbelievable and off the beaten path. He took us for a hike and called out the monkeys. It was crazy how many wild monkeys we saw. I highly recommend. You will get your feet wet getting in and out of the boat and walk through some mud if you go on a hike.
