Pelican State Charters are a USCG certified charter service that specialize in inshore saltwater fishing in the Batartaria Basin marsh system. Located just 40 minutes south of New Orleans, they are ideally situated to offer diverse fishing trips around Lafitte and Barataria.

The 23 ft Ranger boat was chosen by the captain because of its extremely smooth ride. The boat is powered by a 225 HP Honda engine and is equipped with a trolling motor and anchoring system to give you the best chance of catching a variety of inshore species. It also features a live bait tank and seating for up to five anglers.

Pelican State Charters primarily fish with artificial lures, and find Gulp!® lures particularly effective, although you are welcome to fish with live bait at an additional cost. They use Penn reels and All Star rods to fish for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder and other inshore species, depending on the season and the conditions on the day.

All rods, reels and terminal tackle that you will need throughout your trip are included in the price, and some snacks and drinks are also provided by the captain. Any fish you decide to keep will also be cleaned and filleted for you free of charge at the end of the day. All you need to bring is your lunch and a valid Louisiana fishing license.

Captain Dave will provide an informative and enjoyable trip for all levels of angler. Don’t forget to ask him for his blackened Redfish recipe before you go home!

Great time with family.  Had a hard time finding fish but Captain Dave was working awful hard trying to.  Ended up doing ok.  Would do it again.

My sister and I had the best time fishing with Dave during our very short time in New Orleans. He knew the waters, he worked his ass off to put us on fish and made our time on the water the highlight of our visit. The conversation and banter was unmatched. He went way above and beyond any expectations we had for a very memorable experience. We will definitely be back and I would highly recommend this charter to anyone looking for the best fishing experience in the New Orleans region, lots of laughs, good company, and he makes a decent sandwich too ;) Thanks again Dave!! See you soon -Kay and Jess

Captain Dave put us on a good trout bite right away in the morning, but then the bayou shut down.  It didn’t seem like anyone was doing much good.  Dave put in extra time and at the end of the day found a honey hole of Bull Redfish that we hammered them in.  The trip was a blast, and left with a nice pile of fish.  Highly recommended.
