If you’ve heard about Tarpon fishing and would like to know what all the fuss is about, then look no further than Backwater Tarpon Fishing Charters.
Operated by Captain Clery, they are your resident experts when it comes to tackling the Silver King in his own backyard.
You’ll be fishing on a 20’ Hydra-Sports bay boat that is powered by a single 150 HP Suzuki engine. This vessel is perfect for Tarpon fishing as the flat deck gives you enough freedom to walk effortlessly around the boat while minimizing the risk of falling and/or getting the line tangled.
This vast lagoon is perfectly suited for marine life, providing infinite sources of bait all year round for the resident fish. Targeting the Silver King will be your main priority, but there are other fish around as well. The local Tarpon population can range anywhere from 20 lbs all the way up to 150 lbs.
Captain Clery will provide you with all the necessary rods, reels, and terminal tackle you’ll need for a fun time on the water. All you need to bring is a pair of polarized sunglasses, some sunscreen, and a go-getter attitude.
Once you’ve danced with the Silver King, you’ll be hooked for life.

Bite was a little slow. We landed a small tarpon 20 min into our hunt. Then we waited, we could see the fish but they didn't want to play our game. So we tried a new spot…same results. Then wtith about 20 min to go we set up on our final spot. Marina was in sight. We tried 3 different baits. Bam! 1st hit was a 34" barracuda. With about 10 min until we were to return to the dock the rod doubled over and it was ON. My son fought for about 1/2 hour to land this fish. The entire time Captain coached and maneuvered boat. We had a successful catch and release. Approx. weight 60-70#

Capt Fernando Montalvo Was awesome. Very knowledgable put me right in the fish. Hooked up to a tarpon within 15 mins. And another 2 throughout the trip. After sitting with cut bait we moved to another spot we're capt Fernando put me right on top of a frenzy of tarpon. I wanted to use my new custom rod I built just for this trip and I landed a nice 3ft tarpon on a topwater spook which is the best feeling ever. After missing a few more bites my topwater got demolished by a trophy triple digit tarpon. I fought it for a couple mins getting great videos of my rod and the fish jumping before it broke off. It was the best trip I could have asked for in Puerto Rico. I will definitely be booking next time I visit. 10/10 all around. Friendly fun and even taught me the fg knot wait waiting for a bite. Thanks again man.

We couldn't be happier with the time we spent with Captain Alex... he was very knowledgeable about the fishing grounds.... my wife and I have never been tarpon fishing before and he was very patient with us... he put us on the fish all day. I highly recommend this charter group and especially Captain Alex... We will be back and will be calling on him again

Captain Abi was AMAZING!

My boyfriend and I went fishing on our last day in Puerto Rico, and were lucky enough to have Captain Abi. He was so attentive, personable, helpful and even brought us lunch! He was totally fluent in English) my boyfriend is fluent but I speak no Spanish..) and was a great captain. We felt safe, educated and comfortable the whole time. Would highly recommend not only Backwater Tarpon & Snook Fishing but also to request Abi specifically. We will never forget our trip or Abi!
