Fishing with Uli
There’s a fish with your name on it in Zihuatanejo and Fishing with Uli will help you catch it! Captain Ulises will be your guide, which means you’ll tap into years of knowledge and experience.
Depending on the time of year, you might hook into Barracuda, Bonito, Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, African Pompano Jack, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Needlefish, Pompano, Roosterfish, Sailfish, and whatever else is biting. During the trip you might be light tackle fishing, trolling, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
Planning a family adventure? Kids are absolutely welcome! If you don’t have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there’s one on board. Snacks are never a bad idea so that nobody gets grumpy on an empty belly!
You’ll be welcome aboard a 25’ sportfishing vessel with room for 4 passengers. It has outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and everything else you need for a productive day on the water. There’s a toilet on board for your convenience. You’ll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, as well as lures. Live bait is available, but you should ask the captain whether you’ll be catching it yourself.
A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates often work for tips and it’s customary to offer them a 10–20% tip.
The charter boat covers your fishing license, so you can drive right over and come aboard without any hassle! Keep in mind that some fish may have harvest limits or closed seasons. Your captain will help you follow regulations while you fish.
You can’t go wrong when you bring sunblock (non-spray), a hat, and sunglasses. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but you should avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

7 Hour Trip
Fishing with Capt. Uli.
Capt. Uli contacted us the day before our scheduled fishing trip(s). He went out of his way to assist us with an issue we had with our first hotel in Zihuantanejo and helped us with translation and re-location to Ixtapa. He was patient with our two boys (first time on the sea and first-time fishing) They were apprehensive with the boat rocking with the waves, but after the first fish was on the hook it all went away!. We decided to stay near shore and fish and not go way out for the chance of catching a big one. Capt. Uli got us on the bonita tuna and the boys had great fun catching lots of fish on both days. Overall, this was a great time for our boys. My goal was to make some life-long memories for them and fishing with Uli certainly accomplished this! Capt. Uli and his crew made for a memorable trip with lots of fish. I recommend Fishing with Uli if you want a good value and some fun for your money!

7 Hour Trip
Truly a God send
I have taken a little time before writing this review because I don’t think that no matter what I say that it is going to be able to speak high enough to express what an amazing person Uli is. We had scheduled a fishing trip with Uli ahead of time and as the day approached one of our friends had gotten sick, when Uli called me that morning and I shared that I was just trying to arrange medical care for our friend he came to our hotel and helped to call a doctor to come over (we had no clue what to do being Americans). We then went out fishing and he was very knowledgeable and let us know ahead of time that deep sea fishing had been slow but that we could try otherwise we could stay in closer and catch a lot more fish. We of course chose deep sea fish and even though we didn’t catch anything they were constantly rerigging and trying everything that they could to get a fish on. Both Uli and Eddy worked their butts off and where very sociable, which made it a lot of fun. When we got back to land one of our other friends called us and let us know that our friend had went unconscious in his room, Uli came back with us to the hotel and was able to navigate getting an ambulance there right away which from my understanding is very difficult and was able to communicate on our behalf to get our friend help. With our Uli I truly mean it that our friend could have died. As I started this review out words cannot express our gratitude for how amazing of a fishing guide Uli is but more importantly the amazing man that he is to go far above and beyond to help a fellow human. We will not go out with anyone else besides him next time we are down, and I suggest that you use his fishing service. Thank you again and God bless.

7 Hour Trip
Even you can catch fish
We were two couples with 3 novices so we focused on near shore fishing to allow first timers to catch some fish. The first two landed pretty quickly a Spanish Mackrea.l and a type of snapper I was not familar with. then we hit a dry spell but finished out with 3 Bonitas and another Spanish Mackeral as we were coming back into Zihua Bay. Uli was fun to talk to and had a good story or two about Zihuantenjo, which was fun to hear about. Uli and Eduardo (first mate) were extremely helpful from baiting and preping fish. Uli took us down to the end of the peer to a restaurant he recommended, that cooked a large meal from the fish from ceviche to grilled, and baked fish that was quite a meal that we truly enjoyed with a Negro reliving stories of the adventure, Certainly to note he ran into previous customers and it shows that they truly liked touring with Uli and we had similar feelings and will use him again next year. While the seas were mild ( less than 1-2 ft swells) one of the members got sea sick and Uli was quick to help out with gravol that knocked her out while recovering showing he was willing abd has knowledge to help out.

Great day fishing close to shore
Booked the trip and Uli recommended that the offshore fishing had been slow, so we stayed close to shore. Caught lots of Bonita and a couple mackerel and a mahi mahi. Finished off the day with a couple nice jacks. Captain speaks very good English and those guys worked to get us on the fish. Spotted some humpback whales on the way back in. Once back in the bay they cleaned our fish and Uli helped us get situated in a restaurant that cooked our catch up for us several different ways and had a beer with us. How can you beat that ?

I booked a trip for me and my son, and we had an amazing time fishing with Uli! From the start, his enthusiasm and expertise made the experience unforgettable. We had some great bites throughout the day and even reeled in two nice sailfish!
