If you’re ready to start fishing in Kenai, book a trip with Chugach Backcountry Fishing.

Local species include Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Arctic Char, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), Dolly Varden, Sockeye Salmon, Coho Salmon, Pink Salmon, and more, depending on the season.

During the trip, you might be spinning, trolling, drifting, jigging, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Corey also offers fly fishing.

Families making a day of it will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. And, you can’t go wrong with snacks so that nobody gets cranky on an empty stomach!

You’ll be dropping lines from a 20’ Willie Predator aluminum fishing boat that can carry up to 5 passengers. It comes with all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Your captain will provide rods and reels, along with lures.

You will need to buy a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect. It’s recommended to bring sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

    Spend the day on some of the smaller creeks and drainages the Kenai Peninsula has to offer. Stay away from the crowds and the bigger rivers to explore excellent Rainbow and Dolly Vaden fishing. Lightweight rods and small creeks with lots of action make this a unique trip that most don't offer. CBF specializes in this trip as we grew up on these smaller rivers and know them like no one else.

Born and raised Alaskan. I Grew up in a Salmon hatchery my father ran in Moose Pass. Ive been fishing Alaska since I could walk and have vast knowledge of the fisheries all over South Central Alaska. Being a biologists son and avid fisherman since I could walk, I've found out the intricacies of each fishery the area has to offer. Chugach Backcountry Fishing guides are also all Local Alaskans.
