About the Captain

Mark Malamphy
Ocean City, Maryland, United States
Member since March 2016
Capt. Mark was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was raised in Pasadena. He fished the streams, rivers and tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay from the age of 5, and became increasingly passionate about the outdoors, hunting and fishing, as he grew. While he was at high school, Capt. Mark worked part time on a commercial crabbing boat, pulling pots and culling crabs and becoming ever more fascinated by life on the water. When he was introduced to offshore fishing in his early twenties, Mark was instantly "hooked", and has been fishing the offshore waters and canyons off Ocean City, Maryland, ever since, for 20 years. Brandon and Carter, Mark's teenage sons, accompany him on charter fishing trips, working as mates on the FINATIC. Mark is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and passion for Sportfishing with everyone who comes aboard.

Friendly captain and crew. We hooked 4 yellow fin tuna and landed 3.  We caught fish but paid for it by getting pretty banged up & sick.  The boat was too small to be fishing in 6’ to 8’ waves.  We all lost our breakfast (chum) inspite of taking Dramamine and wearing sea bands. We constantly had to hold on to something so we wouldn’t fall.  My dad banged his elbow so bad it swelled up like a golf ball. My sister-in-law fell in the cabin and hit her head pretty good.  When we hooked into the fish, we had to neal down on the deck so we wouldn’t fall down or overboard.  A chair would have been helpful to real in the fish.  There was so much yelling & craziness when we hooked into the fish and every one sliding around, it was chaos.  I have a video of some of the maddness, it actually made us all laugh later.  I think if the captain had a bigger boat and a more helpful 1st mate, it would make a world of difference.

Great charter and family! They caught one of the biggest stringers of yellow fin tuna out of the 80 plus boats that ventured out into the canyons that day off Ocean City, Maryland. The weather forecast was completely inaccurate with high seas and winds that eventually laid down mid day. Should have caught the big eye tuna that eventually spooled an 80 wide that made off with a $100 spreader bar and 900 yds of mono. Let one of the customers try a gaff shot and he let go of the gaff after he stuck the fish. He stated he did not know they were that powerful. (Same gentleman who wrote this review)  If we would have put that fish in the boat at that gaff shot we could have began work on the big eye tuna. Lessons learned by all that trip!! Tight Lines! Capt. Mark

I had the pleasure of fishing the Mako Mania Tournament aboard the Finatic w/Capt. Mark Malamphy.  Day 1 we fished Washington Canyon & quickly became engaged in mako, hammerhead & dusky shark. In between shark sessions we enjoyed top water mahi on light tackle. What a blast! We ended the day with a large mako @ the boat that really got our blood pumping. Awesome day that was followed up on day 2 with a trip to the Fingers for some action with the tiger & thresher sharks! Overall it was a great 2 day trip w/plenty of action all day long. A big thank you to the Capt. & crew!!
