Topwater Sportfishing GT Charters welcomes you to the stunning waters of Cairns.
These waters are known for Black Marlin, Narrow-barred Spanish Mackerel, Coral Trout, Giant Trevally, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and more – with any luck, it won't take long to hook into some. On these trips, you can expect to troll and bottom fish using light or heavy tackle. Capt. Jason also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
Trips with Topwater Sportfishing GT Charters are kid-friendly, so get 'em offline and onto the water! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Feel free to bring your own snacks to maintain your energy throughout the trip!
Your adventure begins aboard a 25' Contender center console that can carry up to 4 passengers. It has outriggers, downriggers, and all the essentials. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Rods, reels, and tackle are included, along with lures.
The charter boat covers your fishing license, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Have in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. Simply ask and your captain can tell you more.
Some essentials to bring are bottled water, sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray). There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks available on board.

Although the weather wasn’t in our favor, Dan put us on some fish and we made the best of the conditions. Very knowledgeable and passionate guide making it a great experience. I will definitely be back with this crew to chase some GTs next time in Australia!

Captain Dan made fantastic suggestions that allowed us to have a great time on the water and catch huge fish! I had a fantastic time and would recommend anyone looking for a charter check here first!

We invested $2600 today for our children's inaugural sportfishing experience. Our children were very excited the day before the trip. The captain navigated the vessel for one hour to Rudder Reef, where we unfortunately did not catch any fish. Subsequently, we relocated to an alternative fishing spot. During transit, the children observed the boat operator smoking on multiple occasions, which regrettably resulted in two children experiencing seasickness. Additionally, we were surprised to find that only squid was provided as bait, with no alternative options available. Overall, we consider this to have been a highly unsatisfactory experience.
The Skipper, Daniel was awesome, very helpful and knowledgeable. Great boat and fishing gear, everything is so clean and well maintained, it was just awesome
I was raised fishing and working on boats, my dad owned and operated charter boats in NSW. When I was 16, I completed my first commercial skipper ticket (couldn't use it until I was 18) when I was 17, I came to Cairns and worked on a game boat my dad drove for a season, that made me want to live in Cairns. I came back for each light and heavy tackle season after that, working on various boats, and officially moved here when I was 20. I did a 3-year stint on a remote sport fishing charter company that goes as north as PNG, then I became a skipper and now I run my own charter business! I love fishing, it can be both relaxing and challenging and you never know what the day will bring. I especially love fishing when it comes to other people, catching them their fish of a lifetime or a record. My favorite species is Marlin (Black Marlin particularly)
