Papagayo Fishing – Chorotega 32' Boat
Spend the day with Papagayo Fishing and get hooked on fishing in Coco! With Captain Jose at the helm, you're in knowledgeable and experienced hands.
Around here it's common to catch Amberjack, Pacific Barracuda, Bonito, Jack Crevalle, Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Wahoo, Roosterfish, and more, depending on conditions. On the day of your trip, you're likely to troll and bottom fish using heavy tackle. Capt. Jose also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
Kids are welcome, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. Snacks are permitted onboard — bring your favorites so that everyone stays happy and energized!
Your fishing machine for the day is a 32' Carolina sportfishing boat that holds up to 4 passengers. It has outriggers, downriggers, a fighting chair, and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
You'll have the help of a First Mate to put you on fish. It's customary to tip the Mate 10–20% to show your appreciation.
Before coming aboard, it will be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.
You can't go wrong when you bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), and a hat. Drinks will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks included on board.

When asked at the beginning of the outing what type of fishing we wanted, we said bottom fishing. The crew, with a mind of their own, chose to put out an array of surface lures, then trolled around for the entire time! Not for even one minute did we do any bottom fishing. Why? I couldn't say!

It's always disappointing when the fishing isn't as expected, but unfortunately, it's something beyond our control. We're currently reviewing the situation with the captain to better understand what happened, including why bottom fishing wasn't carried out. Our goal is to learn from this and continue improving the experience. Thanks for letting me know. Jose Mendez
