I’ve been fishing this area my whole life, with camps on Rangeley Stream, Upper Dam, and currently on Little Kennebago.
I trolled Rangeley Lake, Mooselookmeguntic Lake and Richardson Lake with my grandfather. My father built a post and beam camp on Upper Dam when I was about six years old and I’d spend the entire summer or most of it fishing below upper dam so I know the pools pretty well.
I also like to fish the Upper, and Lower Magallaway as well as Kennebago River. We have a camp on Little Kennebago so I have access and will guide you from a Rangeley boat. When the fishing slows down a bit in the height of summer, I like to fish the tributaries of this watershed. I look for small tributaries that start from nowhere on my Maine Gazzette Map. Usually these tributaries are spring fed and ice cold and are filled with native Brook Trout.
There are also lots of wonderful ponds in the area and I have a 1911 Old Town Canoe that I refurbished last year. Chances are you may see deer, eagles, bears, otters, loons foxes, grouse, bobcats, coyotes, fishers and of course a big bull moose. I am also a guide at Grants Camps on Kennebago Lake. You’d have to be staying with them if you book. Ask for me when booking your cabin. This allows you to fish behind the gate of the Upper and Lower Kennebago River, which is considered some of the best, if not the best, native Brook Trout fishing east of the Mississippi. If I have enough notice we can troll streamers-for salmon and brook trout in Rangeley and Mooselookmeguntic.
Also another great option to fish is the Rapid River where you can catch truly a once in a lifetime Brook Trout. If you’re interested in booking I’d like the opportunity to show you my stomping grounds since I was a kid. I currently live in Freeport Maine, which is about a 2 hour drive to Oquossoc. The areas that we fish can range from a 5 minute drive to a 45 minute drive if we decide to fish the Upper Magallaway.
I look forward to it..
