USCG Capt Chris Nichols at The Carolina Angler is one of the most experienced full-time fishing guides on Lake Wylie with over 45 years of fishing experience fishing for Crappie, Catfish, Bass, White Perch and Bluegill.
Fishing out of a 22' Sea Pro center console boat outfitted with a brand new 200 HP 4 Stroke Yamaha motor and the latest Lowrance electronics, we can accommodate up to 6 fisherman per boat. We can also accommodate larger parties up to 12-15 people with a weeks notice. We cater to families and children, as well as seasoned anglers.
We provide everything (rods, reels, tackle, bait & life jackets) you need to have a fun and successful day of fishing. The only thing you will need to provide is a fishing license and anything you want to eat / drink during the trip.
We are USCG licensed and commercially insured.

Wonderful Family Fishing Trip
4 Hour Trip – Lake Wylie (PM) on April 10, 2026 • 3 adults • 3 children
We did the afternoon trip on Lake Wylie and it was a blast. We were 6 people total (3 adults and 3 kids) and Captain Chris hahdled everything with patience and ease. We started off trolling for catfish and caught two big blue catfish around 20-30 pounds each. The kids were beyond excited to see and touch such huge fish. My six year old son then nailed what we think was a giant flathead catfish around 50 pounds. It took him a long time to reel it up and it unfortunately broke off before we could see it. Better luck next time! We then switched it up by using live minnows to fish for crappie and white perch, catching countless fish of both species. Overall we had an awesome day of fishing on the lake. I’d highly recommend Captain Chris to anyone looking to fish the lake! This is especially true for families with kids, as he was terrific with our young ones!

Amazing Trip!

I cannot say enough positive things about Captain Chris. We caught more fish than we could count and all 5 members of my family had a wonderful time. For my son's 12th birthday, my wife and I (as well as our 10 year old son and 17 year old daughter) went out on Lake Wylie to catch catfish. All of us caught a slew of catfish bigger than my 10 year old. Captain Chris educated us about fishing in the area and the lake in particular. He explained the best areas to catch fish and the best techniques to use to do so. He then took us out to the middle of the lake to catch white perch and crappie. Captain Chris is a genuinely nice man. He is very interested in all members of the charter being engaged and having a wonderful time on the water. He also gave a variety of recommendations for dinner. We drove 90 minutes (each way) to go on the water with Captain Chris and we would gladly do it again. We booked a birthday fishing trip with Carolina Angler for my 13-year-old son, and it was hands down the best fishing experience we've ever had — way better than trips we've done in Florida!
Captain Chris was absolutely fantastic. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and patient, and he taught us so much about the fish we were catching — how to spot them, understand their habits, and why certain baits work best. His love for fishing and the lake really shows.
We had an amazing day on the water and caught so much fish — around 8 catfish and close to 100 perch! This was way more than we've ever caught before. Chris had all the right gear, bait, and tips. He was especially great with the kids — helping them bait the hooks, cast properly, and take fish off the lines.
My son said it was the best birthday fishing trip ever, and I couldn’t agree more.

Today we had an excursion on Lake Wylie with Captain Chris. The entire trip was enjoyable. Chris provided instruction, technique, knowledge of the lake, and most importantly, patience and kindness toward our children, who are inexperienced at fishing. They caught several white perch and crappy, but also quite a few catfish - even a 15 pounder! Our kids were so excited! We highly recommend and can’t wait for our next day on the lake with him.
