Lucy B Charters
Book your next trip with Lucy B Charters and find out what the fishing in Portland is all about.
Around here the fishing is popular for Striped Bass, Atlantic Mackerel, Lobster, Cod, Haddock, Pollock, Blue Shark, Thresher Shark, Porbeagle Shark, Mako Shark, Bluefin Tuna, Black Seabass, and more with any luck. You can expect to do some light tackle fishing, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
Children are welcome, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. And, you can't go wrong with snacks so that nobody gets cranky on an empty belly!
Your excursion begins aboard a Phoenix 29 Sportfish with room for 6 passengers. It comes with all the essentials. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Chris has rods and reels for you, along with lures. Live bait is included, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
The charter boat covers your fishing license, so all you have to do is show up ready for a good time! Keep in mind that some fish may have harvest limits or closed seasons. If you don't know what to expect, ask the captain.
Some essentials to bring are sunglasses, bottled water, and sunblock (non-spray). If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.
How often would you rather be fishing? Go on and turn that day dream into a reality, with Lucy B Charters.

The day started out super overcast and rainy. Captain Chris called and offered to cancel with a full refund. My wife and I were determined to go ocean fishing, so we told him lets go! We settled in to catch mackerel and we hammered them! Sometimes 3 or 4 at a time! Although we didn’t get any striped bass, Chris was willing to move around and try new areas to improve our success odds. Great and friendly captain, would highly recommend a trip aboard the Lucy B!
His calm and professional manner made our first sea fishing adventure a dream! I couldnt have been happier with our experience. To see my son light up with glee when he was getting fish after fish will be a core memory for years to come. He was willing to explain every detail, had the rigs pre set and ready to fish. My son loves to ask questions and Captain Chris delivered informative responses with joy and passion for his line of work.
Captain Chris was a wonderful captain. He knows the area, what’s biting, and he’ll let you know and give options to meet you where you’re at depending on what experience you’re looking for. We booked a 2h trip and a 4h trip over 2 days. Both were great. The 2h trip went quick, but we caught fish and my son had a great time. The next day we did a mix of hauling lobster traps and mackerel jigging. Both were productive and educational. We pivoted and tried different techniques at his recommendation with success. It was great! Chris was great. I’d definitely book with him again next time I’m in Portland!

Captain chris met us at the boat with a great friendly attitude. He explained how the fishing had been, not great lately, and gave us options to rebook or give it a shot. It was a perfect day on the water so we gave it a shot and Captain Chris did his best to put it over fish and despite it being a really poor fishing day, we did manage to pull in a few mackerel, which was a lot of fun. We then scooted over to do some bottom Fishing and unfortunately struck out, but again he told us stories and gave us some navigation highlights as we went to the fishing spot, and was super great with the kids and very patient overall. It was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend Captain Chris and the Lucy B !

my family and I booked a fishing excursion on the Lucy B with Captain Chris. We did the two hour mackerel fishing trip at 4 PM. The weather was absolutely perfect. Chris shared a lot of history about the area, the forts, the lighthouses. Unfortunately, the fish were not biting, but it was certainly not due to lack of effort on Captain Chris’s part. He moved his numerous times trying to find where the school of mackerel may be. We just happen to be right at low tide, which apparently often impacts fishing. My son was a little disappointed, not to have caught anything, but it’s called fishing not catching… I think two hours was the perfect amount of time. Would definitely do again!
