If you're looking to spend a vacation in Long Island ,The Bahamas, spend it on the breathtaking flats that surround this island. Bonefish Paradise Fishing Services isn't named like it is for no reason and they'll show you just why - join them in stalking the flats for the gorgeous fish there.

Climb aboard the 17' flats boat manufactured by Andros, perfectly suitable for this type of terrain. She has been recently restored (in 2015), so everything is in tip-top shape. She's powered by a solid 85 HP Yamaha outboard engine. On board, you can find Captain Dwayne Knowles, a captain with over 30 years of experience guiding customers in the waters of Deadman's Cay ,Long Island, Bahamas.

The flats are home to many exciting species you can target, among which are the world famous Tarpon, Barracuda, and Jack Crevalle, as well as the Permit, Lemon, Blacktip Sharks, and Bonefish. Fishing techniques that are available are spinning (for Barracuda) and fly fishing - Capt. Dwayne is an expert at those. Customers should bring their own spinning gear and flyfishing equipment is available for an extra charge.

Clients are recommended to stay at Kooters vacation rentals,Mangrove Bush Long Island Bahamas though any accommodations is fine too. The charter has a strict catch-and-release policy in place, though clients can keep Snapper if they intend to eat it afterward. Children are welcome on board but there is a 9-year-old minimum age policy.

Great bonefish trip on a beautiful and accomodating Island

I will definitely return to this island. Considering the strange conditions caused by the full moon, we probably saw over 350 bonefish over the course of four days. One day, 90 percent of the fish just vanished, but did teturn the next tide. The fish were very spooky and many also just followed the fly for a few feet and then just continued along. The captain got me a lot of shots at fish and I landed a few with some nice pictures on this beautiful island in the Bahamas.

Dwayne is an Island born Bahamian, raised in Deadman's Cay, Long Island, Bahamas. His father was the first guide fishing the flats in Deadman's Cay and that tradition is continued. He is recognized as one of the best specialists in Bonefishing, as well as a great teacher. Dwane is patient and experienced, with vast knowledge of where to stalk Bonefish on the flats of the Deadman's Cay Long Island and find the exclusive 'Grey Ghosts'.

6 months ago May/June Bonefish Report May and June are prime time for bonefish on Long Island. Water temps are 78–82°F with gin-clear flats and light SE winds. We’re seeing great numbers of tailing fish on the marls and creek mouths, with schools of 4–10 fish and singles cruising skinny water. Incoming tides are best, especially mornings 8–11am and late afternoons. Crab and shrimp flies are getting steady eats. Average fish are 3–6 lbs with shots at 8–10+ lb Perfect conditions for beginners and seasoned anglers. We offer half-day 4hr and full-day 8hr wading/skiff trips. This is peak season and we run limited boats daily. May/June dates book fast. Catch-and-release only. Let’s

Second day with Dwayne. The conditions sucked and it was our final day on Long Island so we ventured back out. Anytime I pay for a guided trip, I’m paying for an experience not numbers. Dwayne made the trip as worthwhile as possible and continued to teach me about the flats and bonefish. I would happily pay double or triple his guide price if he put on a bonefish class. His knowledge is incredible and his humor is always present. My wife and I are considering Exuma for our next trip and I will probably find a way to get over to Long Island just to fish with Dwayne again.

Such a tough day and Dwayne did everything a good guide could do to find fish. We contended with 20-30 mph winds and broken clouds. The bones didn’t want to come up to the flats and the few fish we did locate were in slightly deeper water. I was able to get my fly to one and catch my first bone. Dwayne was incredibly fun to be with and we moved around a lot looking for fish. The boat was what I look for when I find a guide, older, well used and well maintained. I learned a ton and couldn’t have asked for a better trip considering the conditions. My wife was able to come along as a non-angler and wandered some of the sand bars while we fished. I’ll definitely be booking with Dwayne the next time I come to Long Island and I’ll be praying the weather is a bit nicer.
