Soča Valley Marble Trout Slovenia
Fly fish the clear waters of the Soča Valley in Slovenia with Fly Fishing Alpe Adria. Famous for crystalline transparency and distinct emerald and turquoise tones, the fairytale Soča River and the pristine tributaries of its alpine basin offer an extraordinary fishery where sight fishing and stealth are essential.
Our primary ambition is targeting Marble trout—an elusive, wary, and often spooky fish demanding patience and precise presentation. The river also holds a population of Rainbow trout, which are typically more aggressive and provide consistent surface action throughout the day.
Our preferred method and true passion is dry fly presentation. Depending on water levels, clarity, and daily conditions, we readily adapt using nymphing or streamer techniques to make the most of our time on the river.
A typical guided day lasts about 8 hours, usually from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, depending on the season, weather, water temperatures, and insect hatches, start and finish times may be adjusted to align with the most productive fishing windows.
All required tackle and gear is provided: premium rods, reels, and custom flies tied personally to match local hatches, along with breathable waders and boots (please share sizes in advance). Daily fishing permits for premier river beats are included, alongside a packed lunch with fresh sandwiches made from local ingredients, snacks, and cold drinks from our car fridge. We practice strict catch-and-release, fishing with a barbless hook and one single fly.
The water remains very cold, between 10°C and 12°C even in midsummer. To stay comfortable while wading, please bring technical thermal base layers (long johns, merino wool socks), a fleece layer, and a reliable rain jacket.
We meet in the morning at the bar of Pension & Camping Klin, at the confluence of the Soča and Lepena rivers, to share a coffee and review the day's plan. Free parking is available on site.
