Starkey Outdoors – Ft.Gibson Lake Paddlefish
Springtime is when the big female Paddlefish/Spoonbill make their run up the river to spawn. This is when the people who enjoy the taste of caviar book their trips. Most of the guides stay pretty busy this time of year chasing the big paddlefish for harvest. I start my dedicated Paddlefish season March 1st and it runs till May 1st. Then the female spawn out and head back to the lower lake.
We need three minimum to go out for a trip and I run AM & PM trips. The AM trips start at daylight or there after and runs until noon or when everyone limits out. The PM trips start at 1 and run till dark or when everyone limits out. I can accommodate up to 7 people legally.
Most of the time we use Livescope to target the fish. Sometimes we troll with divers. It depends on the water conditions at that time. My paddlefish trips are so successful that I will refund your money if we don't hook into the kind of fish your after. So I guarantee your trip.
Before coming aboard, an Okla fishing license for everyone in your group 18 years or older is required. This information is available online at the ODWC website. Paddlefish also require a free Paddlefish Permit for everyone regardless of age. You can keep 1 fish per day and 2 per calendar year. So we can catch and release in Okla until we catch and keep what your after. Some people just fun fish and release everything. Please read all the rules about fishing for Paddlefish in Oklahoma beforehand.
It's always wise to bring sunglasses, bottled water, snacks and sunblock. Dress warm this time of year. If it rains I will have the boat enclosure on so we can stay kinda dry. Alcohol is allowed in moderation.
Paddlefish are unique in every way. They are related to nothing and we call them the dinosaur fish. The meat doesn't flake apart like salmon does. It's fibrous like a chicken breast. Since they only eat micro plankton they must be snagged.

Great trip, tags filled and Jerry was very personable. First time paddlefishing was a success. Captain Jerry kept things entertaining between fish. This trip was a great experience and i would recommend everyone to use captain Jerry. after we tagged out on paddle fish, captain Jerry used the scraps from the paddle fish as catfish bait and took us catfising! 10/10

Thank you all. Fun trip.
Jerry was on time, friendly & put us on fish for the entire afternoon. I am a disabled Vet. Jerry was observing & always ready to help if I needed it. He allowed me to do as much as I wanted or could before lending a hand. After taking our paddlefish, he spent the next couple hours catching a half dozen catfish. He is an easy conversationalist.

Thank you guys. We had a great time.
I contacted Captain Jerry after watching some of his Youtube videos. He was quick to respond to my inquiry and spent time on the phone answering my questions and letting me know what to expect…we had never gone fishing for paddlefish before. Jerry had the boat ready to go as soon as we arrived. He worked hard to find the fish and we caught some huge ones. My daughter and I had a great day. I will contact Jerry again the next time I go fishing in Oklahoma!

Thank you. Great people.
An amazing experience! Captain Jerry was great, very patient and showed us everything we needed to know to be successful and take home a cooler full of fish!

Thank you. You guys were a lot of fun.

Captain Jerry is the owner and sole operator of Starkey Outdoors. He lives on Lake Oologah and considers it his home lake. Knows it like no other. It's said that Lake Oologah has more paddlefish/spoonbill than any other lake in the world. So naturally he specializes in paddlefish. However big blue cats are his passion as well as hybrid white bass and saugeye. He also guides in Alaska and has plenty of stories to share about his adventures up there. All his trips are guaranteed to catch fish.
