Enjoy the Gulf of Papagayo – Don Paco II
Enjoy the Gulf of Papagayo and explore the waters of Playa Panamá, Bahía Culebra, and Costa Rica’s North Pacific aboard Don Paco II. Captain Andy Anthonny and his first mate combine local knowledge with flexible trips for families, first-time anglers, and experienced fishermen.
Depending on the trip, season, and sea conditions, the crew can fish the inshore and reef areas around the bay or travel farther offshore. Target species may include Roosterfish, Pacific Dog Snapper, Broomtail Grouper, Pacific Crevalle Jack, Houndfish, Great Barracuda, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Blue Marlin, and Striped Marlin. Techniques include trolling, spinning, popping, jigging, drifting, and bottom fishing. Spearfishing is also available on suitable trips.
Don Paco II is a 32-foot custom panga powered by a 250 HP Suzuki outboard. The boat accommodates up to 10 guests and features GPS, a fishfinder, VHF radio, outriggers, downriggers, a livewell, an ice box, and a toilet. Rods, reels, tackle, and lures are included, and live bait is available depending on the trip.
Children are welcome aboard. Drinks and light snacks are provided. Guests may bring alcohol in moderation, but hard liquor and glass bottles are not allowed. Fishing licenses are included. The crew will explain which fish may be kept and which must be released under local regulations. When a suitable fish is caught, the crew can also prepare fresh sashimi on board for guests to enjoy.
Guests should bring polarized sunglasses, a hat, and non-spray sunscreen. Hotel pickup by boat may be arranged from selected beachfront properties in the Gulf of Papagayo, depending on location and sea conditions.
Whether guests are chasing their first fish or a trophy catch, Captain Andy and his crew aim to make every trip friendly, comfortable, and memorable.
